I wouldn't read kotaku if I don't have to, which I don't. Rock Paper Shotgun, Giant Bomb, and Polygon a pretty good for the most part. RPS is pretty great.

Not early adopting. I'm hunkering down for the avalanche of bullshit that comes with.

It sounds like they just wanted to make it so devs could choose to make their game always online, not that nextbox needs a connection. Don't think it's a great idea, but I'll withhold any scathing criticism until the actual release.

Xbox One is the official name

This TV and multitask stuff is already more impressive than anything the PS4 showed.

Come on bro, better than the Wii U or the Playstation 4.

Just announced 15 new exclusives from Microsoft Studios in the first year, 8 of them new IP's

I hate to say it as they're so excited about your TV features, but I don't have TV, nor do I want it. It's not how I consume entertainment anymore.

It probably is better than the Wii U, but I can't say as I give a crap about any of the Xbox's house franchises. And I haven't seen a reveal of the PS4 to judge. It doesn't have it's hardware reveal until June 10.

But as far as names go, sorry...Xbox One (for the third in the console series) is dumb.

Xbox One fits the theme that they're going for, tying everything into a single experience. *shrug* /dealwithit

PS4 hardware reveal on June 10 will bring no new information, it's just a box with the hardware inside of it. Sony has already shown what it can do, and none of it is as impressive so far.

XBO > PS4

Console is a bit bulky, but I love the new kinect and controller designs.

I'm not sure there's a quantitative difference between not having something, and doing something I don't care about and won't use. Controller looks slick. USB 3.0 is nice, but I don't think I've ever plugged USB media into my 360. I've literally no use for the TV/sports stuff. Skype? OK, whatever. Kinect is equally useless to me. #shrug

And it's hard to claim "Xbox One" a superior name to "Playstation 4" when they're quite literally the same thing (brand name + number). PS4 has at least the sense to be numerically accurate. #sightwosighlectricboogaloo

Aw. I'm sad that Alan Wake's creators moved away from horror and into sci-fi. 'Cause we need more sci-fi games. #returnofthesigh

No backward compatibility for the Xbox One.

I haven't yet decided if I'm going PS4 or Xbox One this time out, but most likely I will only get one this time. I like Sony's exclusives far more than Microsoft's. Everything I've read says that the Xbox One is (finally) adopting a Blu-ray drive, but I haven't seen anyone explicitly state that it will play Blu-ray video discs. That's a make-or-break for me.

Honestly, do we care that much about bwc? I played maybe two PS2 games on my PS3 that probably totaled less than 5 hours since 2006.

Why would you worry that the X1 can't play blu-ray movies when it has a blu-ray drive?

The TV stuff I can understand not caring about, but you also have to recognize that it's going to be a huge selling point for those of us that still use cable providers, and the fantasy sports stuff is going to be HUGE for some people. Like, that alone is an instant sell to three or four of my friends over the PS4.

I'm going to be buying both because I love exclusives but I'm much more excited about what the X1 is bringing to the table.

I don't need backwards compat. I have a 360.

The TV integration stuff looks bloody amazing, especially with a noise cancelling kinect sensor.

The article said:
Quote:
The Kinect already uses a combination of noise- and echo-cancellation and waveform “beam steering”

That's the same kind of thing the SPY phased arrays on Aegis cruisers do. Mmmm electronically steered beams. (Its actually likely a lot different, but I like thinking there's an Aegis cruiser in my room. Makes me feel safe.)

Fantasy Football integration? Pretty cool, but I have a tablet/smartphone for that. There's already not enough screen real estate to watch 4 games AND keep up with how badly I'm losing this week. ;)

Oh yeah, it'll also play games. Whatever ;)

I, along with a lot of other people, want to replace our consoles, not collect them like tchotchkes. TVs only have so many inputs. It's not a major cause for concern (hence the lack of a fourth #sigh), but it seems silly.

Lenas wrote:

Because the original Xbox had a DVD drive and didn't play DVDs (unless you bought a $30 add-on)? The Wii used DVDs but never played them. The Wii U uses Blu-ray media but doesn't play movies. It's not a given.

That's cool for them. I'm speaking of my own interest (or lack thereof) in the console. It's moving into a very "bro-gamer" space (the Xbox line has always kinda been there), and it just doesn't appeal to me. If I go Xbox this time around, it's just a bunch of clutter I have to skip over to do anything I actually want to do. #shrug

Yeah, that's another problem I have with it. I buy a console to game, and then do other things on it, not the reverse.

I think Sony gets royalties if the device is playback enabled.

With their large focus on media I can't imagine they would lack the ability to play blu-ray video.

You only say that because you have never had the option. I guarantee that if your Apple TV had the ability to do all of these things in one package, you'd be all for it.

Do what? The things I don't give a crap about doing? I can't see myself being terribly excited about things I don't give a crap about, no matter the platform.

Being able to watch any of the shows you care about from the providers that you want (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon) while simultaneously being able to play games. If this thing had an Apple logo on it you would already have it preordered man, don't act like the live TV features were the only things shown.

I do wish that as well.

Here's a PS4/Xbox One spec comparison. They're so similar, you'd think they would have been called "Microsoft Republican" and "Sony Democrat."

I'll actually gain an input with this. AND I'll keep the 360.

By eliminating my standalone BR player, and connecting my DirecTV box through this, I'll be able to... I dunno, hook my Wii back up or something.

They're not the only things shown, nor are they the only things that failed to impress me (as enumerated in many, many posts above). I have nothing against the Xbox One (goofy name aside); it just hasn't shown me anything that made me go "oooh, I want that!" If it did to you, I'm very glad.

Sorry for not pretending that Microsoft unveiled the Christ child to the world.

Edit: Though by the way, this:

I already have. It's called a Playstation 3. And it also plays Blu-ray movies.

At the same time? Don't be dense. I would LOVE the ability to have a show pinned to the side while I'm playing a game (for example, farming in an RPG while catching up on a show I'm behind in).

Rumors squashed, internet connection not required:

And while I would in no way encourage the tech to not be built or incorporated into the device, it is anathema to me to use. If I'm playing a game, I want to play a game. If I'm watching a TV show, I want to watch a TV show. I don't split my focus.

Destiny, and that Quantum game look pretty cool. Also, Halo 5 and a rumored ME 4.

Yay. ;)

I'm kinda here with that. I don't multitask well, and the TV ends up being just noise.

If I have to use the Kinect interface to do things, this is just a pretty Wii, and will never be purchased by me. Ever.
