Also, the name? Meh. However, if you want to call it the XB1 cause I know there'll be people out there that do do that.

You're missing the opportunity to call it the X-BOne.

Yes, I am 12 years old. /snicker.

I can guarantee the PS4 will have a similar system in place, but they haven't said anything about it yet.

You don't have to use the Kinect for anything. The controller can do it all, as well. Though the voice commands will definitely make some things much faster.

I said that till I got a Kinect. Its actually pretty neat. Especially if they have made it as better as it looks like they have.

Again, unless AMD has pulled a serious rabbit out of their hat, you're going to end up with less hardware than any SnapDragon powered phone on the market except for the RAM department. That troubles me ... a lot.

Yeah, saying Kinect, ESPN, watch is a hell of a lot faster than finding my remote, picking it up, and waiting for the dinosaur that is my DirecTV box to recognize 2-0-6-enter.

I think I'm going to dig that.

Wait what?

How is the Jaguar chip in any way equivalent to SnapDragon?

You're a real comedian sometimes, Khross. The PS4 has the AMD-built Jaguar chip. The X1 has a custom built chip by MS.

Jaguar is the successor to AMD's abysmal line of netbook/ultrabook/tablet processors in the Bobcat family. Also, that should tell you something else about these devices: CPU and GPU are on the same die, which will lead to all sorts of fallacious reporting of power, ability, and claims in the popular media. As to how it relates to the SnapDragon, well the SnapDragon makes better devices than Bobcats do.

Ok, well, then which of your sources is wrong, Lenas? Yours or FarSky's?

I guess it's impossible to confirm, there are different reports all over.

Sources have been saying both the XBox One and the PS4 will use the AMD Jaguar package for months now. I voiced my concerns earlier, when Coren mentioned it. I'm voicing my concerns again, now that the Jaguar derivative is confirmed for the PS4 and suspected for the XBox One. AMD is BAD at making integrated processing packages and worse at making embedded platforms.

It's still a ridiculous notion that smartphones will be more powerful than these systems. It's not realistic in practice, even if the processors are similar. My SnapDragon is two cores at 1.5GHz, not 8 cores at 1.6GHz.

Wow, there sure are a lot of haters coming to this thread to confirm their bias.

If you like it, buy it, if you don't, don't buy it.

For me, the jury is still out until I see what the UI looks like, what the price points are, and what the recurring costs are.

I'm not keen to have to subscribe to another monthly service without giving one up (Im not currently paying for Xbox Gold).

I'm also not interested in Kinect.. AT ALL... I suppose that could change, but it's unlikely.

My main interest in this is as a living room media device. Gaming is not my primary concern.

Khross, serious question. How much RAM is enough for this platform? Do we know enough about the architecture to think that they are shorting us ?

I have 16G of very fast RAM in my PC, and yet I rarely go over 4G in use at any given time....

Is there reason to think that 8G isn't enough for this thing?

That's good then.

I find that extremely doubtful. Time will tell.

I've used a Kinect. Just not at my house. I hate it.

As I told Khross: the Wii made me want to throw things. The Kinect made me want to kick things.

I doubt more of the same will reduce the desire to do violence.

Microsoft has endorsed this Wired piece as the definitive guide (so far) for the X1

Not at all.

In fact, the only enjoyable element of the Kinect was turning off the Xbox while other people were playing to purposefully be a dick.

"Xbox OFF!" was hilariously annoying, once. Thereafter, the Kinect had zero redeeming qualities.

Who doesn't love that!

What I'm hoping is that the resolution of the new Kinect is so far ahead of the current that its more responsive, and gives a more "Minority Report" feel. If its that fast and responsive, I will use the hell out of it.

Yes, because the calm voice and motions that we saw during the live demo today definitely constitues "waving your hands wildly" and "shouting at the tv"

Here is the interface: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/ ... e-revealed - the system automatically recognizes you and boots into your custom home screen. No more manual login or waiting on system/game updates. Home screen interface is very similar to the current dashboard.

Regarding price, you can probably bet on $399/$499 depending on HDD size

Recurring cost will almost certainly be the same as XBLG right now.

Minority report still had a tactile interface. One that I could potentially be down with.

Except it didn't. Tom Cruise wore gloves but he never actually touched the screens he was interfacing with.

I'm not worried about the RAM at all; I'm worried about the processing packages.

Personally, I'll take buttons that do exactly what I want every single time to hand waving.

Give me the voice control flexibility of the Starship Enterprise computer, or tactile interface. No middle ground, because the middle ground sucks.

Have you watched the videos? Seems pretty damn flexible to me. You aren't getting a middle ground, you're getting the most comprehensive voice/motion control available and a controller that can do everything just as well.

Or go look at the Wired cover and see what level of control the new Kinect measures to. It's kind of scary actually.
