Yea, I don't get that whole thing. Far as I can remember, Gendry is still with the Brotherhood.

Kinda stumped on the Gendry thing.

Book 4 or 5 spoiler?
Spoiler:
I thought maybe they were using him as a replacement for the Edric kid (different bastard of Robert's) that they kidnap in book 4 or 5, but I'm not sure why they would do it so early.

Spoiler:
Correct; after being a guest/hostage of Stannis (and Melisandre). Then, Davos learns of the red woman's plans, etc. I am wondering if HBO will have Gendry act as the Edric plot piece.

Book 3 spoiler

Spoiler:
I have no doubt Gendry is serving the function of Edric. The preview for next week's episode even has him getting leached as Edric was.

Ulfyn, I think you might be remembering. They took Edric from Storms End in book two, and used him for the rituals in book 3. He was long gone across the narrow sea by book 4.

Loved that.

Yeah, that was a great line. I thought the line "That's why the gods made whores" from the book was a good line, but that might be even better.

I really loved the Stannis/Davos scene. It showed a better side of Stannis than we've seen in the TV series.

Overall I give the episode a solid 8. There were a few missteps, but nothing significant.

Edit: Oh, and no episode next week, which sucks. And then the famed 9th episode. Always the best, most shocking episode (Ned's beheading, Battle of the Blackwater).

How do we feel about the shitty changes to Mero and Daario? I'm upset with the producers on this one. They have an opportunity to introduce two visually unique characters in a series that is already known for everyone looking the same, and they just toss in some more ruggedly handsome white men. Really, HBO? Couldn't afford some blue hair dye? A fake beard maybe?

Blah.

Your link is broken, but the way Daario is describe in the books is ridiculous and wouldn't really have worked in the T.V. series IMO.

Changes to Mero? He died earlier than in the books. I can't remember exactly how he's described. Honestly character appearances don't matter to me unless it is integral to the plot (Brienne, Tyrion, etc).

I was just disappointed. They were both described as interesting characters in the book and the show just turned them into rugged white dudes.

I hated Daario in the book. Do not like him at all. That being said, I care very little for that whole story there.

I only care about about Dany so far as she relates to the events in Westeros, which isn't often.

It would be advisable for non-book readers to be particularly careful about spoilers (via twitter, tumblr, etc) for this Sundays episode. Especially if you don't live on the east coast and/or are not watching the show right when it airs on the east coast.

Hey, so was there an episode this past Sunday? My DVR didn't record anything, so I wasn't sure if it just messed up or if there was no episode due to Memorial Day.

Good news. I don't have to throw the DVR through the window in frustration.

They are doing an amazing job at hiding any spoilers.

My expectations of ep 9:
Spoiler:
• RW, obviously
• Grey Worm, Daario and Jorah breaching Yunkai
• Jon/Bran at Queenscrown and Bran finally warging into Summer
• This has to be the episode where they intro Coldhands

I can't wait until Sunday. This episode brought to you by ampm, Too Much Good Stuff.

Re: Lenas' ep 9 expectations
Spoiler:
Grey Worm, Daario, and Jorah breaching Yunkai? What would be their objective in doing this? There is the theory that the TV show is going to combine Yunkai and Meereen. I've personally decided that is unlikely. If they do that, it literally leaves nothing for Dany in S4, which means they have to pull book 5 stuff in to cover all of season 4. They will likely pull some stuff in from book 5 to season 4, but I don't think they want it to be elusively book 5 content.

I think we're only going to see a single scene, maybe two, with Dany. Episode 10 will be Dany's big episode.

Spoiler:
I may be misremembering but don't Jorah and Grey Worm sneak into the city? I seem to remember them sneaking through sewers or something. I'm assuming Daario is going to be with them just because there's not much motivation in the show to flank from three sides when the Second Sons are already taken care of / Stormcrows don't exist. They show Jorah fighting during the episode preview and Daario has been shown fighting in early S3 trailers, both of which I'm assuming we'll see in the next episode.

I hope they don't stretch it into some grand battle for episode 10, because the entire thing is only supposed to take a few hours with very minimal casualties on either side. I don't expect a large battle in ep 10, just the aftermath and "Mhysa."

Spoiler:
You are thinking of Meereen. Barriston and Jorah sneak through the sewers and free the slaves to start a rebellion on the inside while Dany attack from outside. For Yunkai there is an off-screen surprise attack by Dany's forces while Dany is chatting with Selmy. Daario successfully double-crosses the other mercenary companies, while Dany's surprise attack works, and Yunkai's forces are destroyed with few casualties for Dany's forces. Yunkai then gives in to Dany's demands and releases all their slaves. Dany never takes over Yunkai.

Yeah, went back over them and I was just merging the two in my head, I guess. Even so,

Spoiler:
They are starting the fighting in ep. 9 and it wouldn't make much sense to stretch the battle so far and have it as the main part of episode 10. I still think that they're going to just show the aftermath in episode 10 and they will make a large scene of Dany entering the city to calls of "Mhysa" but hopefully they wont end on that. I don't want another season ending with Dany :/

ASoS spoiler

Spoiler:
So that spoiler warning was a lie. Not mentioning any spoilers, I just didn't want non-book readers to even know about what I'm going to say and be tempted by it.

There is a credible source (non-book reader) that has seen Ep 9 and described the final scene on IMDB. Yeah, that scene.
