It's like the godfather of all "Literal Version" song lyrics!

I'm absolutely stuck on this album:

edIT - Crying Over Pros For No Reason

The funny thing his other albums sound nothing like this. This is entirely an exercise in so called "glitch hop" i.e. a hip hop like break beat in a hip hop tempo with a heavy emphasis on auto-loop functions, distortion filters and other production tricks to create a glitched out, stuttering sub rhythm to accentuate the syncopation of the primary rhythm. The three best tracks IMO, in order, on the album are:

Random earworm is random.

This has been a recurring earworm for the past 2 or 3 weeks.

Thanks for posting that Shel. Love that tune.

It's a pretty persistent ear worm for me, but it's usually this specific version that gets me...

I never get tired of this!

Yea, I had that song stuck in my head for a couple days. The un-censored video is... wow.

Also, since I'm on a Lyle kick: Whooping Crane. The man is severely under rated.

I just discovered Takénobu (Nick Takénobu Ogawa). His music is kind of east-meets-west, alt bluegrass-meets-classical. Whatever you call it, he plays a mean cello.

This is his rendition of Shady Grove:

One of his instrumental pieces, "Exposition" (maybe my favorite so far):

And another vocal piece, "Watersong":

The Civil Wars' new album is out. If anything, it's even better than their first.

My interest is certainly piqued by that song. "Barton Hollow", too. I think you recommended them back when their first album came out, but somehow they slipped through my mental cracks. They sound like the kind of thing my brother-in-law would dig, too. I need to remember to recommend them to him.

Counter-recommendation that just sprung up in my "One Station to Rule Them All" on Pandora: Chris Thile (formerly of Nickel Creek).

Holy mother of progressive bluegrass.
Pandora wrote:
Based on what you've told us so far, we're playing this track because it features bluegrass instrumentation, folk influences, great musicianship, acoustic sonority and intricate melodic phrasing.

No kidding. :psyduck:

I heard this today on Pandora and had to stop what I was doing to listen to it and find out who it was. Absolutely gorgeous.

Lyrics:
Spoiler:
I am holding half an acre
Torn from the map of Michigan
And folded in this scrap of paper
Is a land I grew in

Think of every town you've lived in
Every room, you lay your head
And what is it that you remember?

Do you carry every sadness with you
Every hour your heart was broken
Every night the fear and darkness
Lay down with you

A man is walking on the highway
A woman stares out at the sea
And light is only now just breaking

So we carry every sadness with us
Every hour our heart were broken
Every night the fear and darkness
Lay down with us

But I am holding half an acre
Torn from the map of Michigan
I am carrying this scrap of paper

That can crack the darkest sky wide open
Every burden taken from me
Every night my heart unfolding
My home.

Edit: Stathol, this isn't really progressive or newgrass, but Tony Rice plays a bluegrass jazz mashup style that is pretty cool.

Manzanita is one of my favorites. You might like this (or some of his other work)
