Taly, if you liked Batman Begins, you will like this film. Hell, they could have called it Superman Begins.

Granted, I love Superman. So take that for what you will.

I'm not quite as excited about it as Raell is, but I loved this movie. I wouldn't say it's the greatest movie ever made, but I really enjoyed it. I'm also not the biggest Superman fan in the world, but I do like the character, and have enjoyed most of the Superman films. None of them compared to this one, however.

So I have read a couple reviews of folks that don't like the film. The two I read both bring up "Sucker Punch". I just wonder if they hate it because of Snyder.

I wonder the same thing. Personally, I liked Sucker Punch. I haven't exactly been disappointed with anything Snyder has done, so far. I have to say that Man of Steel is his best work so far, though.

It made me enjoy a Superman movie, whom is one of my most "ehhh" Super Hero's. I enjoyed it very much, particularly Kevin Costner as the father who far exceded my expectations.

Spoiler:
Nothing to see in the credits you can get up now

Spoiler:
http://aftercredits.com/ is your best friend. It will tell you if there is stuff during or after the credits, as well as keep the spoilers hidden unless you click on them (so if you really don't want to wait through 5 min of credits, you can just see if it's worth it).

Alanis Morrissette and Dave Coulier might beg to differ. Well, Dave at least.

My wife and I religiously say through the credits, stuff or not. Our kids hate it.

on reflection, I think:
I enjoyed the krypton scenes. Not great, but entertainment.
I really liked the growing up scenes; felt like it might grow into a Jossy film.
I was tremendously dissapointed by the extended punch everything ending, and the abandonment of character - the last 75 minutes ruined it for me ;-p

It's interesting you say that. Kurt Loder's review basically said "this is a great 90 minute movie that lasts 2 and a half hours."

Huh.

Sucker Punch is worse than Hitler. I'll try to forget it when I finally see Superdude.

Kurt Loder's day job, when the MTV News gig started, was as the editor of Rolling Stone, which came after Loder's society shattering run as the editor of Circus. In no small way, Kurt Loder made MTV possible without the MTV News gig. Also, he's been writing and publishing movie reviews since the late 60s.

Saw it this weekend. Mixed feelings, but on the whole, I enjoyed it. Definitely worlds better than Superman Returns. Mostly just needed to be more tightly edited in the latter half, and I think it could have done more to follow through on some of the character-development conflicts the first part of the film set up.

Spoiler:
Also, I'm very much not a fan of the "Michael Bay Transformers" style of CGI used for the World Machine's defenses.

As a Superman movie, it delivered exactly what I wanted. There was no kryptonite bullshit. Instead, I got to see antagonists that posed a credible threat saddle up and ride on Superman's ***.

I'd rather see Jeremy Renner reprise his role as Clint Barton than go through another Snyder/Nolan Superman movie. Hell, I'll defend the Parallax choice before I defend anything but Costner's performance in this film. In fact, this film pretty much tells me that the best thing Warner Bros. can do for their DC film universe is bar Nolan from working on a superhero film ever again ...

I liked it. It was one of the better Superman adaptions I've seen in a very long time (and I didn't mind the last one). As much as I am not a fan of DC, Superman was the first superhero I loved when I was very young. So he'll always find that little spot at the back of my heart no matter how much I fight it.

My biggest gripe:

Spoiler:
Pa Kent telling Clark to stay put while he runs back to the cars to be heroic. Here I thought "Ok, this is where he learns the importance of self service and self sacrifice for other human beings." Nope. His dad threw his life away for..... the dog.

Look, I love my dog. A hell of a lot. But I am not going to give up my life for my dog.

My wife was bugged by this new Superman's teeth. I didn't notice any problem, but according to her they aren't perfect and that bugged the buggers out of her. Even after I told her that no earthly dental work would be able to fix it. Which brings me to, how did he shave?

Spoiler:
He honestly believed he could get back to the over pass in time. Yet he got hurt. In the end, he died to protect Clark. He loved Clark and his biggest fear was that one day, they would find out who he is and life would never be the same after that. The only way Clark would have been able to save him is with the use of his powers, in front of dozens of people. The one thing Pa Kent feared the most. He didn't die for the dog, he died for Clark. That is just my take on it.

Oh and Lord Doom, I am sorry you did not like the film. Feel free to give me an extra beating next time you see fit to punish your minions.

As far as the Sucker Punch theory, I loved the hell out of Sucker Punch, and just got back from Man of Steel, which I give a solid "Meh."

I liked the casting pretty well all around. Whenever Clark/Supes was talking to a human, I thought he was well-written and well-portrayed. Henry Cavill pulled off a great mix of confidence, respect, and patronizing deference whenever he was dealing with the authorities that created a Superman character that I really liked.

But dear lord, every word out of Zod's mouth was annoying, and the latter half of the film was chock full of plot holes and self-inconsistencies that grated on me.

This film also finally made me realize what it is about Transformers (2 & 3, especially), Avengers, and now Man of Steel that just gets so bland. There's only so much you can do to make a bunch of exploding grey look interesting and exciting. And that so much is "almost nothing." It's not a fault of CGI, it's just that billowing clouds of concrete dust and rubble are.. billowing clouds of concrete dust and rubble.
