Well, yes -- yes, you could. It's just an HDMI input... BRB.

Okay, 15 pre-orders have been placed, simultaneous picture-in-picture of 15 Arrested Development episodes would probably be the most hilarious half hour in existence.

Well maybe it's not all bad after all...

TheRiov posted this in tech, but it probably belongs here, too.

He spends the last 5 minutes or so of the video using a commercial variant of the 1st Generation Kinect.

"Sources" indicate that MS may be completely reversing all of the terrible policies they announced: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/micro ... 1100-4673/

Quote:
What does this mean?

• No more always online requirement
• The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
• All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
• An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
• All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
• No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
• Region locks have been dropped

IGN is already reporting it to be true.

This would swing me fully into the MS camp, if true.

I still wouldn't preorder, but would wait a while.

None of those things actually bothered me, but they do make me feel better about the system in general. I'm still annoyed that it's $100 more expensive and the HDD is non-upgradeable, but I can live with those. If MS comes out and confirms these rumors I'll definitely reconsider a preorder.

While this would be awesome, I am going to call total BS on this until the official word has come out. I think someone is trolling Microsoft into "confirming" all of these horrible policies all over again. If it's true, that would be great, but after sticking to their guns through an absolutely horrible PR announcement period, I'd be amazed if they changed them now.

Fair enough.

MS Confirmed: http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/19/xbox ... -reversal/

Quote:
Mattrick further explains that this is a direct response to gamer outcry. "Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One," he says. Further, he confirms that Xbox One games will be region-free, and that disc-based games will have to be kept in the disc tray rather than ripped to the console and played digitally (a previously touted Xbox One feature).

I wonder if they also suddenly realized that the "hardcore gamerz" of the 80s and 90s are not kids anymore and are now their target market with the disposable income that will be the bulk of their sales or non sales.

OK, so apparently Microsoft can totally stick through an entire bullshit PR session and then change policies well after they've burned down the goodwill house they've built. Props.

Still, you know when that first exclusive comes out that is absolutely amazing, the short memory of the internet will kick in. Me included. Damn this week consumer brain!

Figured it would happen sooner or later.

Now it all comes down to software.

And the innovative sharing features have gone by the wayside with the removal of the online checkin.

Thanks internet whiners! I was actually looking forward to those.

Which innovative sharing features were those?

The shared library that would let 10 of your friends and family play your games from any location at any time (assuming you weren't currently playing said title).

the one where you could have the games in your library shared with up to 10 friends online specifically.

Now I have to take an actual physical disc to an actual physical person to share the game.

We aren't the target demo. Little Billy is and whatever platform his friend buys is what he wants.

Gamer demographics as of 2011 spoilered for size. The average gamer is 34 years old.

I dunno, kids make up the same percentage as grandparents. I'd say we're still the target market.

That would be a lot more meaningful if the citations weren't all blurred out. Right off the top of my head is the stat, 35% of parents play games and 93% of their children do too. Who do you think is driving the decision around which console to buy in those 35% of households?

Deciphered the one about ages which is what I was interested in, but since they don't define "gamer" it is all pretty meaningless.
http://www.theesa.com/facts/
Quote:
They now state the average age of gamers is 30 and has been playing for 13 years
which means "gamers" are getting younger, not older.
Quote:
Forty-five percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (19 percent)

Thirty-six percent of gamers play games on their smartphone, and 25 percent play games on their wireless device

The last two facts point me to believe their definition of "gamer" differs from mine by A LOT.

Gizmodo blames us for MS back-peddle

Quote:
Cheaper games. Easier sharing. The end of discs. The Xbox One would have been just fine despite the chorus of haters, would have been a better system for ignoring them. Microsoft losing its nerve on this isn't just disappointing for the features we lose. It's unfortunate because it shows just how heavy an anchor we can be.

I wonder if its all for show and the law of "no bad press" applies. For good or bad people are talking about the Xbone.
