I have to say, this movie looks so retarded.

Even if it does have some actors I enjoy, such as Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba.

This movie wasn't on my radar until I saw the trailer at Man of Steel. I assumed, based on the name, that it was going to be some movie based around boats or warships or some other lame war-type thing. So I never even gave it a close look.

Now, I have to see this. The 7 year-old buried deep inside me is a gigantic Voltron and Godzilla fan. If he doesn't see this, he will kill me.

With all the extremely craptarded movies coming out this summer that are taking themselves SO SERIOUSLY, I'm convinced Guillermo will take us on a great ride.

Here's the thing...of all of the projects to which Guillermo del Toro's name is attached (the next, a Gothic haunted house horror film called Crimson Peak, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, and Supernatural's Jim Beaver, is right up my alley, though), this is the least interesting of them to me. As a kid, I apparently missed the whole kaiju film/mecha Japanimation inculcation of my peers.

However...

I don't give a ****. I'll stump to hell and back for it, because 1) any GdT is better than no GdT, and 2) I desperately want GdT to finally have a big box-office smash under his belt, so that he can do whatever the **** he wants.

I want my 3D, big-budget, superinsaneocrazy At the Mountains of Madness film, gorrammit.

What part of giant robots punching **** escapes your entertainment net, Mr. Sky? We need to know this.

I think Mr. Sky prefers a little more subtlety in his Cinéma vérité.

Giant robots punching **** ...

Seriously, having a script at all might be a problem with this film.

Guillermo del Toro's
GIANT ROBOTS PUNCHING **** FOR TWO HOURS!

I'd go see it ;)

Right, exactly ...

So my point, here, is that unless there's a gratuitous lack of Giant Robots Punching **** (as it is not 89 minutes of a 90 minute movie), del Toro cannot fail.

Yeah, I don't want to know about the pilot and his childhood or relationships. Those things are not robots punching giant monsters.

I also am with Sky, inasmuch as giant robots do almost literally nothing for me.

This thread is conjuring up memories of trying to defend Cyborg as the greatest movie of all time.

I am on board with the any film paradigm which holds that giant robots punching **** is, in and of itself, a fantastic movie with no need for a script, plot, or any other premise. Giant robots punching **** is an integral part of what it means to be human.

Which was pretty much my exact quote when I first heard they were making an Aliens Vs Predator movie.

Edit: Oh, and as others mentioned much earlier in the thread when they thought they heard GladOS.... they were right. It is Ellen McLain doing the voice for the disembodied AI.

So, you have giant alien monsters... giant mecha robots punching them... and GladOS. Why again do some people not want to see this?

Because they have no souls.

Or we like plots with our film-viewing hours?

Fireworks have no plot, yet folks still go out of their way to watch 'em come July 4. Sometimes spectacle and eye candy don't need to be accompanied by brainpower, and that's ok.

There is a plot. It's called giant robots and monsters **** **** up. That's enough to get my attention for 2 hours.

You shifted from We to I there.

When did you stop enjoying fun?

Meh, the we to I made more sense for the fireworks thing, since that was just me. The "don't enjoy smashy robots" felt more generalizable to other people.

Watching fireworks has never been much fun to me. That said, I bet setting them off (the big boys, like professional-grade) would be. I require active participation in many events to find them "fun."

When you have little kids, you can chase them around while waiting for the fireworks to start. There's your participation!
