Yeah, I can confirm that just about all of John Carpenter's good movies have aged well. The Thing, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Big Trouble, Escape from New York, good stuff. I always liked In the Mouth of Madness too, wonder how that one has aged. Need to dig it up again.

I love John Carpenter. In the Mouth of Madness is one of my favorite films of all-time, and The Thing is downright brilliant. Halloween remains a masterpiece of the genre. I rewatched Prince of Darkness a few months ago...it gets a bit goofy in parts, but the underlying ideas are fascinating.

Escape from LA was...crap. The Fog wasn't bad at all...but it wasn't great. It's really overrated. Starman is a forgotten gem. I really love Christine; though the acting isn't exactly the strongest, it's got style to spare.

Vampires...ehhh. Ghosts of Mars was absolute crap. His first Masters of Horror episode, "Cigarette Burns," was quite good (and similar in tone to In the Mouth of Madness), though I've not yet seen his second ("Pro-Life" with Ron Perlman).

Interesting I am on nearly the total opposite end of the spectrum from you FarSky. I thought Mouth of Madness was terrible, The Thing was good, The Fog was scary as all crap and The Village of the Damned was a massive derpfest.

A few years ago (before streaming movies) I was on a kick to watch a lot of "classic" movies that I had never seen but told I should have. Some of them were very hard to watch.

Escape From New York was one that was not hard to watch at all. I loved every second of it. I rented Escape from L.A. shortly thereafter hoping for the same goodness.

It started off well. My hopes were high. I saw Snake Plisskin in the same outfit I just watched him wear in Escape from New York, leotard winter-camo pants and all. I was 100% fully on board! And did I see Bruce Campbell's name in the credits? How can this movie fail me?!

But then within minutes they got him out of his classic garb and stuck him in black leather. My hopes began to fall quickly. And then I discovered it was the exact same damn plot as the first movie, with the same twist of an ending. It was awesome the first time. It was forced the second time. And then I remembered that Snake went surfing in this movie.

Escape from L.A. sucked. It totally missed what made the first movie awesome.

Escape from L.A. is the guilty pleasure version of Escape from New York. It's awful, but there's so many insane moments: Bruce Campbell is the plastic surgeon gone wrong? Steve Buscemi is maps to the stars eddie? That main guy from revenge of the nerds is a crazy knife-throwing metalhead? Pam Grier is a Male Transvestite? It's definitely terrible, but when it's on tv at midnight and you've had a few beers, enjoyably bad. And the basketball scene is awesome every time.

*The Quiet Man is a classic but not really a children's movie. (mainly would bore them, but hey, it's the Duke & Maureen O'Hara)
Earth Star Voyager was a guilty pleasure of mine. One of those Disney movie of the week's that they thought about making into a show.

The starred ones I would consider it criminal for any proclaimed movie aficionado to have missed.

Note some of these are truly awful films (BBtS is about 1/3rd recycled footage from other movies for example) but hey, I loved it. Others are painfully slow at times (Ladyhawke for example)

Brewster's Millions! That was just on TV a coupleof weeks ago and I still loved it.
