i know it's asking a lot, but lighten up. I don't have a dog in this fight, and still found it entertaining.

I'm not buying either; I don't need or want either. I'm just appalled at continued push to denigrate it via misinformation and falsehoods provided by Sony, particularly about things like GDDR5 being better for graphics.

That would be true on a stand-alone video card, wherein all procedural stuff was handled in system memory. That's not true across the unified bus in question.

None of that has to do with whether or not there is correlation between the Xbone and Laina Morris, which is what most people are likely taking away from that.

What most people are taking away from that infographic is that they don't need an XBox One.

Who would want to date Laina Morris?

Nah, I'd disregarded the Xbox 1 comparison entirely, I just meant that when she's not making that silly face, she's kind of adorable.

But where's the clingy? ACTING! :) It would be pretty hilarious if after all this internet fame for that character she was the opposite.

Never heard of it. Which, I suppose, explains my confusion.

MS has announced that the kinect is no longer required in any way for the console to function.

I am assuming this will be followed up by the announcement of an Xbox package without the kinect, retailing at $399 to compete with the PS4.

I honestly hope not. The inclusion of the Kinect is the only way for it to move beyond a gimmicky extra used for tacked on, lazy optional control schemes and dancing games.

If the kinect itself is optional, you can guarantee that all control schemes using it will also be optional (aside from kinect-only titles, like we have currently) and gimmicky.

There's a huge difference between "We're not sure everybody in our target market [X-Box One owners] will want to plug their Kinect in, we shouldn't make an integrated control system that requires it, forcing our players to plug it in if they want to play our game" and "We're not sure everybody in our target market [X-Box One owners] will own a Kinect, we shouldn't make an integrated control system that requires it, forcing our players to shell out an extra hundred dollars if they want to play our game."

Possession of something you're on the fence about using, or have an initial distaste towards is much easier to overcome and make people want to use it (by creating a really awesome, intuitive, fun, and immersive control scheme) than essentially tripling your game's price to people who aren't sure if they want to drink the kool-aid.

Well they're still officially packaging it together, but I would still not be surprised at all for another bare bones SKU: http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-wont-actuall ... 1113142909

It will be stupid and counter-productive.

The entire point console buyers buy consoles, and big development studios want to sell games on consoles, is because of platform uniformity.
