Quote:
Robert Downey Jr. has signed up for two more "Avengers" films.

Marvel announced Thursday that the actor will reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man for "The Avengers 2" and "The Avengers 3." Downey Jr. has played the character in three "Iron Man" movies, as well as last year's superhero ensemble film "The Avengers," which made $2.7 billion worldwide.

Joss Whedon is to return as director of the next "Avengers" film. He is writing the screenplay now. Production is to begin in March, with a theatrical release set for May 2015. No release date has yet been set for "The Avengers 3."

Downey Jr., 48, had previously suggested that "Iron Man 3" might be his last spin in a stand-alone "Iron Man" film. Marvel's announcement made no mention of an "Iron Man 4" release.

I'd rather have no new Iron Man movies rather than have someone else play Tony Stark.

Also, I would love a new Blade movie. I loved the first and second, enjoyed the third and the TV show. I would really get behind it if Snipes came back as Blade, but I think I could settle for someone else as I wasn't sure someone else could do well, but the TV series showed me otherwise(guy wasn't as good as Snipes, but he was still pretty good). They could still reboot it completely and still use Snipes right?

Isn't Snipes in jail? Or he spent time in jail. I think he is just too damn old now.

He's out now. He's even been in at least one movie since then. Also, he is going to be in the Expendables 3...probably.

Huh. Five or ten years from now, that might've been an obvious choice. He's a little young now, though.

Still, he's definitely talented, and has some prior experience delivering gobbledygook lines. Given an editorial decision to portray Strange as younger, I can't see where this is a bad avenue to fulfill such a directive.

I think he'd do very well. I still think Cumberbatch is the perfect Strange, but I can definitely see JGL knocking it out of the park.

I should note, all of this Doctor Strange talk is coming from very, very sketchy Latino Review articles, so it's all very grain-of-salty.

So who is Khross's dream casting for Strange?

P.S. Marvel's greatest collection of 2 good movies, one average one, and 6 crimes against celluloid is Amazon's deal of the day.

Hugh Laurie for Dr. Stephen Strange. He spent several seasons perfecting pre-injury Strange on House.

Sometimes I wonder "Why the **** should I listen to what Khross has to say?" and then I read quotes like that and realize why I should listen to what Khross has to say.

Because I don't think anyone gives enough of a damn about The Wolverine to warrant its own thread (seriously, is anyone actually excited for it?), Phe saw it last night and said that it sucks as much as X-Men Origins: Wolverine (albeit in different ways).

Aw man, bummer. They'd hyped it so much as the redemption of wolverine, that's disappointing to hear. Not unexpected, though.

Interesting, because reviews I've seen pretty unanimously say that this is the only Wolverine story worth watching.

I've heard the same as Lenas. Not a perfect movie and it gets weaker in the third act, but still worth watching. Which is what I'll be doing next week. Regardless of that fact, unlike people here, I actually liked the first Wolverine movie(though it had some really stupid parts...like the Deadpool parts after he gets all of the powers) but I liked the majority of it for what it was. Then again, I'm not terribly hard to please when it comes to super hero movies(and action movies in general). As long as there are cool action sequences and cool fight scenes, I'm pretty content. It doesn't need an academy award winning performance or script.

Everything's opinion, of course, and nothing's poor quality if standards are sufficiently low. Not a knock, just an observation. You may enjoy it. My X-Men-loving wife did not, and Fox's massive bungling of every X-Men film but First Class leave me with no enthusiasm to offer.

Thor: The Dark World was enjoyable enough. I miss the authorial vision of a top-tier director, but there was enough humor and action in it to make it a fun watch. Kinda goes bonkers, in a good way.

There are two credits cookies, by the way: one that happens mid-credits (which helps set up Guardians of the Galaxy, and looks cheap and crummy), and then one after the credits. The second is better, though neither are any great shakes (the second just has a fun gag).

I'm trying to figure out how Blink is going to fit into Days of Future Past. But... it's Blink! I hope they do her justice.

I absolutely loved this movie. Probably my third favorite in the franchise (after The Avengers and IM1.)

Actually, I think I'd rate these movies:

The Avengers - 10/10
Iron Man - 9/10
Thor: The Dark World - 8/10
Captain America: The First Avenger - 8/10
The Incredible Hulk - 7/10
Thor - 7/10
Iron Man 3 - 6/10
Iron Man 2 - 5/10

The Winter Soldier looks like it's going to be spectacular.

I rather liked Benicio del Toro as The Collector.

Of the MU movies:

Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Iron Man/Iron Man 3 (tie)
Thor/Thor: The Dark World (tie; I liked the Asgard parts of Thor better than anything in T:TDW, but the Earth parts in the first film were such a bore)
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2

I realized a major problem that I have with the Marvel Studios stuff while watching The Wolverine right on the heels of Thor: The Dark World last weekend: The MU films feel too safe, because of their very public timeline and obvious need to plan ahead. What is lost in continuity of an ad-hoc series like, say, Fox's X-Men films is replaced with the need to make each film stand alone and the omnipresent threat that it could be the last, and thus the stakes are raised and the consequences more dire.

Marvel Studios is doing something that hasn't been done before, and it's a hell of an accomplishment. Moreover, they haven't made any true missteps (if you overlook Iron Man 2). But I feel like it is revealing some unforeseen pitfalls, such as robbing the films of genuine stakes. Either the threats are diminished (it's not like Thor will die, because we all know for how many films Chris Hemsworth is signed and that he's going to be in Avengers 2, blah blah blah) or the emotional costs are hand-waved away in favor of convenience (the emotional core of Thor was his sacrifice to leave Earth and never see Jane again oh wait Avengers happened hey he's back).
