Do you honestly think your job of mangling orders, pressing colorful buttons on a register and assembling McFood from different little boxes is *worth* ~32k a year?

Do you honestly think that you are that difficult to replace that your "strike" will get you what you want?

Do you think for one minute that if you succeed in your quest that there won't be massive layoffs due to your pricing yourselves out of the market? Entry level jobs are called that for a reason. You enter the workforce, and then you work hard and move up to another level.

The tide of entitled behaviour in this country is starting to rise to where its becoming difficult to tread water anymore. If they raise min. wage to $15, will my boss bump my pay the $7 an hour to compensate? Likely not. Now, everyone above you is dragged down by the inflationary pressures you're exerting on the market.

I learned early in my working career that no one really benefits from a government demanded minimum wage increase.

1. The people at minimum wage see their wages go up, but since they are at the level where so much of there money goes to their basic needs (many of which provided by other low-wage works), they are just as adversely affect as other low wage learners by the inflationary creep.

2. Those who had clawed themselves off minimum wage and gotten a wage increase for proving themselves good workers, too often don't get to "keep their raises" and are now making the same amount of money as the people coming in the door.

3. Everyone else in varying degrees sees the prices of their food go up, as companies pass the expense onto them.

Federally mandated minimum wage should DIAF.

Personally (re: the Seattle thing), I think Whole Foods should tell Seattle to #fsck 0ff and build their store somewhere else.

They probably should, much like Wal-mart had to in D.C. If a municipality wants to be hostile to a business, they should go somewhere else, or, better yet, not go there in the first place.

I wonder at what point these fast food junk outlets go to robots? A fancy version of the old.....

Right now orders could be done on Kiosks, probably faster and more accurate. You could have all lanes open at once instead of the 1, maybe two you have today. Humans would still have to prep the food and you might need one person to greet, hand out orders, and deal with kiosk issues. It's like Speedway Gas Station's cafe, only on a larger scale and you would pay at the kiosk instead of the fuel desk.

However the same forces that are crying for unrealistic wages would have a fit if any established fast food chain tried it.

They installed this at a Jack in the Box near my work, back in 2011. It's been shutoff for the last few months, though.

They had those at a Carl's Jr. near my work. I'd go in and there'd be a line to the door and I'd walk up to the kiosk and get my food before anyone else.

Basically they stopped using the kiosks because people are idiots and like to stand in line.

Was there a discount for using the kiosk, considering that a wage was not necessary for it? No? Then **** it.

Yeah, the discount was me not wasting 10 minutes of my life in line. Time is money, right?

Also, I'd imagine the chance of getting a correct order was higher via kiosk, given that only the customer and the cook could screw it up, without the cashier acting as a third opportunity for **** (and you can confirm your order on the screen, I assume).

If you were concerned about that particular 10 minutes, you would not have been at the Carl's Jr. in the first place.
