I'd love to have kobolds playable, lol.

Huh. Gnomes were missing on the original box. 11 characters, 12 original races...

The new art has 9 characters.

I don't think that we're going to see a paring of races or classes. I think that it's going to be an open class system with expanded race-based factions.

I'd be good with that. Particularly if we get a throwback to an EQ faction system rather than a stratified artificial team system like WoW or EQ2. I'm really disappointed that factioning has become more simplified and streamlined rather than more complex.

One of the things I'm mostly looking forward to is the integration of the StoryBricks system.

Also, the latest round of unverifiable rumors... just for fun:
Spoiler:
Quote:
Races and factions – like EQ1 there will be race/class restrictions. Barbarians for example can be the usual classes (Warrior, Bezerkers (or whatever they call the melee DPS class, Shaman). Different starting stats per race and racial abilities (no clue if the racials are meaningful). If that Barbarian chooses and wants to become an Enchanter, he can go raise his faction with a race that has that class. It won’t be an easy ordeal and will take effort. At the time of my info, factions could be individually raised. So a high elf could raise their faction and eventually be accepted by the dark elves but at the cost of their own city/race faction.
The classes I’ve had confirmed are Warrior, Cleric, Shaman, Wizard, Enchanter, Ranger, Druid, Rogue. There are more, but that was all I know of at this moment.

The playable races I had confirmed are Human, High Elf, Dark Elf, Kerran, Kobold, Ogre, Troll. Again there are more than those playable those are just what I know is playable. I tried to get Ratonga and Iksar confirmation but don’t have that yet.

Norrath – the world is gigantic. No zones. The world is seamless. There will be instances in respect to some raids and dungeons but a lot of open dungeons a la EQ1. The extent to which we can damage the environment is still unknown. That’s under wraps pretty tight so I’d imagine its damageable to a good extent.

Spells – no more spell trainers. Abilities are granted passively and the big ones have quests and trials attached to them. Enchanters will have to seek out people around the world to learn and study with. Wizards will have to find various tomes to study to learn to weave the strongest spells. Not sure on the spell weaving mechanic but they seemed to indicate the ability to create and discover new spells. So not every wizards spell book will be the same.

Combat – there will be hotbars. It will NOT be like EQ2s combat abortion. That’s about all I know on that. I’ve pressed for details but that info is locked down tight. Tad could well be right here I concede but if I had to guess, it’ll be action based combat with a limited skill set load out.

Crafting – it is in the game, it is interdependent and its supposedly more meaning than they’ve ever made it. Players will be able to make useful and sought after gear and stuff at all levels. Raid/Dungeon crafting drops confirmed but no mechanics specifics.

Misc – this game will be FTP. It will have a cash shop. SOE will make the world, dungeons, raids as usual. Their version of emergent gameplay is us creating content via their dungeon maker/player studio. Player made PVP battlegrounds. This player created content is all instanced not part of the persistent world. So is housing. Guild housing will be in from the get go as well.

Beta – it’s already in friends and family alpha/beta. After SOE live, beta will begin early Aug/late Sept. they are trying to launch Nov/Dec. the latest this game will launch is Feb/March time frame. They are much farther along then they let on and that’s part of their surprise.

I am legitimately excited about this. I know nothing will bring back the same feeling as when I first started playing Everquest, but Norrath will always have a special place in my heart.

Love those Parkinson prints. I have a few of them rolled up in poster tubes at home. Should really break them out sometime.

Hrm, another question popped to mind: is this game free of Brad McQuaid?

Oh thank God. Now I'm legitimately interested, despite my MMO burnout.

I said when I quit playing Rift that the only thing that would bring me back to a fantasy MMO would be an old-school Norrath. I've been following the fits and fizzles of EQ Next since they started. I hope it's fun, because I really did like that special blend of fantasy tropes and features they put together for that world.

EQ2 did a good job of capturing the feel of the world, but the gameplay was trying to be too inclusive to the expanding MMO market and lost track of what it was trying to offer. It was delightful to play around in an intensely familiar, but undeniably updated Blackburrow, but the core play just wasn't what I was looking for.

Given the desire to differentiate EQ Next from EQ2, I'm definitely intrigued.

From TenTonHammer:

Quote:
"If you happened to have picked this year as the year to hit SOE Live, be prepared for an epic four days the likes of which you can hardly imagine. At the top of many people’s list of reasons to make the pilgrimage to Vegas this year is the infamous official unveiling of EverQuest Next, scheduled at 11AM Pacific on day two of SOE Live, August 2nd. I had the great fortune to be part of a closed door showing of the game at E3 this year along with my convention partner in crime (and our Editor-in-Chief), Reuben, aka Sardu. I don’t care how hung over, sick, tired, blue and tattooed you are that morning; you have to be there for that announcement. If you’re not, you’re going to wonder why everyone else at the convention is walking around in a daze with a slack-jawed look on their face for the next few days. Yes, the shock really will be that great. While we can’t say anything about what we saw, I will clearly state here that I predict EverQuest Next will be as much of a game changer as the original EverQuest was. Feel free to quote me on that any time. "

Dammit.

Sounds like it was a goof that didn't actually go anywhere from your responses, but it might not have been. Dammit.

I hope the announcement that comes tomorrow has gameplay and not just a cgi trailer.

Considering there's rumored playable stations at the event, I can't imagine we won't see gameplay *somehow.* Unless, you know, all the rumors about how far along it is are bunk.

Given they're using the same engine as Planetside 2, though, I see no reason for those rumors to be completely unfounded.

Raltar, tomorrow is all about EQN. The talk by itself is scheduled for 90 minutes and they have over 5 hours of panels planned for the rest of the day.

Also, it's going to be playable.

From SOE's SOE Live Livestream Schedule (say that ten times fast), the EverQuest Next Twitch TV Channel will be live at the following events:

Thursday, August 1st:
7:00 PM PDT - Welcome Reception
8:00 PM PDT - EQ and EQII Keynotes
Friday, August 1st:
12:00 PM PDT - EverQuest Next Debut
Saturday, August 3rd:
11:00 PM PDT - EQ & EQ II Tournaments

Note that the Thursday evening and Saturday morning events are billed as EQ/EQ2 related, but on the EverQuest Next channel. EQ and EQ2 don't have their own channel(s), so this could just be SOE not wanting to create individual channels for games they don't plan to promote and push heavily in the coming future (DCUO and Planetside 2 are the other two game-specific channels billed, along with the base SOE Twitch channel), or it could be indicative of slipping a little or a lot of sneak peaks in to what they anticipate being the target market of fantasy MMO'ers with Norrathian nostalgia.

Tomorrow I would like to see the promise of long quest chains that are unique to your character and what he or she has done (StoryBricks offers this).

I would like to see that the objective locations and npc locations randomized within a certain area of the world that makes sense.

I would like to see large, intricate, open-world dungeons like Old Sebilis again. No instancing outside of raids.

Give me a seamless world in which no quest givers have question marks over their heads, and let me effect this world physically in some way that is real for everyone, no "phasing."

Make armor look unique again

Have a strong reason to craft and a fun gameplay system in which to do it.
