Lenas, most of those bullet-points are things I've been hoping for for years, now. So.. ditto.

Everquest never had unique looking armor. Well, each race had a different look, but every new piece of gear was the same look with a different color...though I do recall the Velious armor looking different, but I don't remember too well. Either way, SoL put a stop to that really quick.

Also, open world raiding was interesting, but there was nothing worse than getting your over 50 member guild together to do a raid only to find out everything is dead so no raid for you. There needs to be instanced raiding along side open world raids to avoid this kind of thing.

Every race had three unique armor sets in Velious plus two unique helms based on gender. Then you had standalone unique items like the Phase Spider Carapace.

Man.. now I want to dig up my EQ2 soundtrack...

Talking about music for EQ Next. Score by Jeremy Soule, of Skyrim notoriety.

Playing a rough synth work in progress... The lead-in is not at all like the familiar title theme. Lots of strings, maybe a little muted brass mixed in, then some choral elements and more strings to carry the melody.

It was a machinima video played to lyrics about hoarding and "Get a big bag..." It was great, I don't know what you're talking about!

Introducing a representative from nVidia (Tony Tamasi, Senior VP of Content and Technology at nVidia), who they've been partnering with for Forgelight. He's promising that EQ Next will use even more features to be awesome than Planetside 2 has, even.

Yeah. No idea why they bothered livestreaming that. I didn't bother with the EQ/EQ2 keynote after they made it clear they weren't offering any peeks before tomorrow.

Funny because the EQ1/2 presenters are waaay better but people just aren't as excited about the updates. I have to say, both of the games have come a LONG way and these teams seem pretty passionate.

Sorry, yes. Lol. All my posts on this page were made while watching their Welcome Reception stream.

Awesome. Somebody uploaded it. Oh, hey. This might even be the original creator.

This sand painting is pretty fun. And a cute way to highlight their whole sandbox thing.

In other news: Twitch chat is full of immature assholes and harsh critics. Lol.

Edit: This music is pretty amazing. Enraptured by the choreography of the sand painting and the music. They're telling the story of the founding of Qeynos. Firiona Vie features heavily, and more reinforcement for her as an archer instead of a wizard this time.

Dave Georgeson, Director of Development. Why a reboot? Because "Enough is enough. Enough of the same game, over and over again. And if somebody's going to do it, we felt like it should be EverQuest."

"Taking everything we know about games and MMOs, and fusing them..."

Taking everything down to the core, including the lore. Shot of one continent in color -- looks like Antonica. Are they cutting Kelethin and Erudin at launch?

The concept art is coming fast and furious. Caves in Everfrost, under Lavastorm, overland on Lavastorm, Oasis, Innothule, Feerot, a new (? I'm way out of date) location, Ashvein. In-game shots of Ashvein...

Flyover of Ashvein. See wizard spires, lots of detail in geometry and texture. Shadows look great, lighting looks complex. Feerot ruins, green-tinged lighting peeking through the jungle canopy...

Showing an accelerated day progression. Sun moves, shadows move in real-time, quality and shade of lighting changes. Night isn't.. black-dark, but is very washed out and blue.

Character concepts coming up. Going for a "heroic, rugged, rough and tumble look." Character concepts for humans, dwarves...

Dwarves are very tough and rugged. Elves are the diametric opposite. Very classically beautiful. Wide foreheads, narrow chins.. Dark elves have horns. Ogres are more intelligent and militaristic this time around. Kerrans are "more lion-ish."

Coming back to humans, looking at exaggerated, expressive faces. Big-ish eyes, mouths, but not anime. It's got kind of a soft, clay look. Showing off the expressiveness with some stills of SOEmote driving a female face. And now, video of SOEmote... and it's impressive. It's not truly up to Pixar quality, but modern Disney animation or Pixar are the touchstone that first comes to mind.

Wow, this looks really fantastic.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm actually going to have to build a much, much beefier computer, though....

Now we're showing cloth and hair movement. The clothing looks very nice. It's got a nice style. Playing through some emotes.

I personally miss the tiger look for the kerrans, but not because the lion faces look bad.

Adding a "parkour-like, what we call heroic movement" system in the game to make moving through the world feel more fun. Grabbing ledges, sliding down slopes, vaulting effortlessly over low obstacles. No extra input aside from the double-jump. Some classes have abilities that trigger off these. Also some items.

Showing the "Boots of the Zephyr" which allow gliding through the air. Wizards teleport when double jumping, warriors leap. Kerrans sprint on all-fours.

Pretty neat, actually.

Four different holy grails.

#1 Changing the Core Game: "For 35 years, we've been playing a lot of Dungeons and Dragons." Pick a class, level up, unlock abilities based on class. They're going to be introducing multiclassing. <applause> "Oh, you haven't heard it yet." Each class has a couple abilities and the ability to use a couple weapons. Collect more classes by talking to NPCs in the world. You can play any of them at any time, and mix and match abilities. Weapons make a big difference. They're class-defining. Warriors have halberds and longswords. Halberds offer room-clearing attacks, longswords offer melee parries and single target damage. As a for instance. "And we have a lot of weapons." "You can mix and match pieces on the weapons to change what they can do" and this apparently can play into crafting.

Watching some of this in action with Helena, their demo human female wizard. Now with Keeshar their male kerran warrior.

#2 Destructability: We've always wanted the ability to blow up anything, any time, anywhere." World is made of voxels, which lets them build and destroy at will in real-time. Showing Helena creating crystals that spring up from the ground to block a bridge. The enemies start breaking them down, so she destroys the bridge. Keeshan then is shown with a "Whirlwind" ability that leaves a bunch of debris strewn about.
