While I'm not happy to see anyone die, the press is being so damn delicate around this I have to keep asking - what was he doing that his fiancee wouldn't stop the truck to let him off?

They were having a dispute - another word for fight.
She took off in the truck and he jumped on board, in the back from most of the reports.
He fell off and sustained injuries that killed him.

The man had a history of fighting, was known for his temper, and everyone seems to be avoiding saying his fiancee was running away scared he was going to hurt her or worse, and she was afraid to stop the truck for fear the hitting would start again. She is not under arrest, she is not a suspect, she was most probably speeding away in self defense, fleeing his wrath.

But oh, gee. He was trying to put his temper and bad behavior behind him, now we'll never know if he could have straightened up and flown right.

We know, just no one wants to say it. He was beating on his woman again, may have been under the influence, and died from misadventure when he tried to stop her driving off.

Yes, I'm jumping to conclusions. I just want someone to clarify what the dispute was, why he was acting so stupid. I doubt it was Coke or Pepsi, cans or two-liter bottles they were discussing.

Football player, wide receiver for the Bengals. Third round draft pick. Dumb kid who could never keep his temper in check.

Somewhere in what you posted, Micheal, is the truth.

I don't know his history (violent, woman beater), maybe he was.

I sure would like to know the sequence of events, though. If she got in the vehicle and started driving away, why in hell would he jump in the back of said moving vehicle. This sounds likely and he probably died of his own stupidity.

That said, if someone is attempting to flee in a vehicle and someone else jumps on it to try and persuade them to stop and that someone else ends up hurt or (as in this case), dead, is the driver on the hook for said death? Does the driver have to stop?

I would also like to know how fast she was going which I haven't seen anywhere.

He may not have been beating her, but he was pretty clearly trying to keep her from leaving the scene.

Unless, of course, he just happened to be in the back of the truck and she took off while he was trying to get out.

I read reports from 911 calls that she was driving and he was beating on the cab with his arm which was in a cast. Next was report of him on the road. That would be more than enough to make me hit the brakes and accelerate again, especially with his track record.
