It’s unbelievable: Star Citizen fans have helped us reach the $15 million mark without any special promotion! Ten years ago, big publishers decided space games weren’t profitable… and you are proving them very, very wrong!

The $15 million unlock adds another flyable ship class to the game, the oft-discussed escort carrier. Every backer will also get a free digital 42-page Upgrade Handbook manual with their game which goes through the process of customizing and overclocking ship systems! We’re excited about putting this one together, since it goes right to the heart of what’s going to make Star Citizen unique.

The previously-announced $16 million stretch goals are:

Arena mode: Arena mode is a simulation within the game, although it is not the simulator itself. Players will have access to an actual training simulator in their hangars, which will be used for the dogfight alpha. The Arena is something bigger. It is a galaxy-wide event, where players come to specific locations, pay their entry fees, and jump into space battles to prove who is the best dogfighter of all. Think of it as a combination of a sports tournament and modern-day gaming contests. Each winner will receive credits for the victory, and the best of the best will meet in higher and higher rounds until a grand champion is crowned.
A laser pistol for every pledger before this point. Keep your ship safe from boarders with a pistol by your side.
With today’s achievement, we’re happy to unlock the $17 million rewards:

$17 million

Ship upgrade package for every pledger containing an engine modifier.
Additional flyable ship class: battlecruiser
Thank you all for your continued support. Tell your friends, Star Citizen is coming!

I still think the Arena would be better if it was to the death, Gladitorial-style. None of this namby-pamby simulated damage.

Hangar art released. Kind of worried about how much time I'm going to spend just walking around this stupid thing. And I only have one ship! We won't see Kaffis for months.

Alol. I'll make sure to come up for air when the dogfighting module is released...

I really like this modular release design. It's going to generate a lot of interest in the game before gold.

Did anyone catch the Star Wars/Jurassic Park mashup at the end of this week's Wing-man's Hangar?

More importantly, did anybody catch the question they answered from KitBash?

<--- KitBash

And that is a sexy ship comparison page, now, that's still missing information, dammit. They tricked me into asking the wrong question!

I was unaware of such things. I kinda glazed over that question because I didn't see that segment you were referencing.

I was asking when they'd have the new ship stats and comparison page up. And they went and launched it on Friday, so they were like, "well, how about now?"

Don't forget to mark your calendars, kids! The hangar module releases this weekend!

I'm pretty stoked to see the final model for the Freelancer up close and personal, since we haven't seen anything about that in a while.

Also really excited to see interiors...

Good thing I have a wedding to go to Saturday, otherwise I might waste the day trying to download and login.

I'm hoping by the time I get to it they will have fixed the overloads and initial rush will be partially sated.

Lol. I think such a site would be kind of useless, as I expect them to be implementing an MMO-style patch management program rather than a full install .exe or .zip.

On the other hand, if there's demand and I'm able to get it up and running early, I might do some FRAPSing and upload to YouTube or something.

Yeah, I was just joking. ;) I'm sure hoping it's a bittorrent type client for distribution, so we don't see servers bursting into flame this weekend.

Game to tide us over as we wait for Star Citizen?

The previous games in the X series had pretty ridiculous controls, it looks like that's something they've really addressed.

Argh! I'll be in Atlanta! Way to screw up my carefully planned Con scheduling, CIG! ;)

All variants for the original 5 ship types will be available on Thursday.

Buggies confirmed, and they showed off an equipment storage room and announced that they'll have a limited in-game store (on the website?) and will be awarding us 5,000 Imperials (in-game money) to buy a limited selection of equipment that we can swap in and out...

Using the computer terminal in the hangar to manage said ship outfitting!

Also, buggies confirmed and driveable, saw one in the Deluxe and Business hangars.

Constellation entry animations aren't hooked up as of today, but should be for release.

umm.... ya lost me there. If such a place exists, I probably won't go there. I think anything that prohibits people who join the game Day One and beyond from integrating into the community, is probably a Bad Idea. A place where the "Vets" can go to get away from the "noobs" (on day one no less) certainly qualifies.

Yeah, I'm pretty torn up about it. I figure it'll be a pretty meaningless place, mostly filled with blackjack and hookers. Nothing stat affecting.
