keep your headset and Kinect. The standard XBox 360 game controller and the media remote will suffice for my needs.

IR receiver is gonna be on the kinect, so if you wanna use that media remote you better keep the kinect plugged in.

From Twitter: "At this rate, by the end of the week, Microsoft are going to announce backwards compatibility with PS3 games for the Xbox One."

I am assuming this will be followed up by the announcement of an Xbox package without the kinect, retailing at $399 to compete with the PS4.

So apparently they won't be able to make enough to support their envisioned Euro-launch.
http://www.videogamer.com/news/xbox_one ... urope.html

Also it will have a built in device has a built in kill-switch to prevent overheating (and I'd imagine overclocking):

Some insider info just got leaked. Apparently this guy is legit as he has made previous accurate statements:
Spoiler:
Quote:
TRANSLATION

Greetings from the land of beer and brautwurst and weird porn! Got here a little while ago and tired so I'm dropping this early. Then bed, then visiting some churches and friends, then work meetings stuff and then I'll see how the gamefloor is later on this week.

TRUTHFACT 1:

No live stream for real reasons. Xbone architecture is still not full complete. The latest version of the SDK from a couple weeks ago dropped performances by 15-20 percent across the board. Now before you get mad at me this happens ALL THE TIME in console development and it will eventually be fixed but there's no chance for an early October release or...

TRUTHFACT 2:

... certainly not for all 21 countries. Localization is absolute one hundred percent BS. TRUTHFACT. The excuses are some that nobody with common sense would consider. Look at the countries dropped. Cross references them against the languages being spoken [in them], official or otherwise in said countries. I said it yielded issues 2 months ago and the chicks have come home to roost. [something something Smartglass] Paying the price now.

TRUTHFACT 3:

Late October launch for PS4. Sony SDKs are ready. You could basically master your final version right now. Today, even!

TRUTHFACT 4:

If you thought people were mad about Bayonetta's sequel going to WiiU you will be someone unhappy about what Microsoft is getting exclusively from Platinum. Other Japanese developers are in play but too, but Kamiya is the only one I can confirm. The game is not for North America or Europe, which makes no sense but whatever.

TRUTHFACT 5:

Big Park(?) killed their game. It was a MOBA. It's dead. The whole studio is now focused on TV stuff. All the bes talent went to Big Tusk(?) or left MS entirely. Rare is still Kinect focused.

TRUTHFACT 6: New indie publishing policy is not set yet and probably won't be until after launch.

TRUTHFACT 7:

September surprise early. I apologize in advance. Everything I saw over last 24 months said there was no chance of a kinectless SKU [to start]. Concrete decision up till now. However,

There are whispers that there will be a kinect optional SKU early next year, probably around March or April. There's enough smoke around this that I didn't want to wait until September to say it! We'll have to wait for launch sales to see for sure.

*** STORM INCOMING.

Translating retard to English isn't my strong suit, but Xbox One is coming out in September and PS4 in October?

Apparently, the early September surprise was that MS was going to announce a Kinect-less SKU in Spring of '14, but CBOAT spilled the beans early. General consensus is that Xbox still Nov launch and PS4 Oct. Of course, with as much craziness and back-tracking that has been going on, who knows how it will end up.

I didn't think it was that bad, but he specifically said it would not even be ready by October.

The convenience of the Xbox One interface and Kinect integration is making me seriously reconsider my decision to buy a PS4 first.

My issue is that one of the bigger selling points will be useless for me. I (by choice) have no cable or satellite television coming into my house.

But I do like the idea of it very easily and quickly recognizing me and my wife as separate people with separate profiles.

A week before black Friday. They are going to need grief counselors to attend to Game Stop workers everywhere.

So now Microsoft appears to be signaling that cross platform play between Xbox One and PCs is in the works:
http://news.yahoo.com/xbox-one-pc-cross ... 20430.html
Quote:

Talk of a cross-platform play reality between the Xbox and the PC has been brought up many times over the years, not the least of which was last week when Ausgamers posed a question on the topic to Microsoft’s Phil Spencer. Among several other questions, Spencer was asked if Xbox One and PC cross-platform play could be a reality in the future, and Spencer indicates the answer is yes.

He shied away from giving outright confirmation, however, responding instead the he’s “not allowed to leak things,” followed by a smile,
according to the Ausgamers interviewer. He goes on to detail the notion of Xbox and PC cross-platform play, however, giving a couple examples that touch on different aspects of how cross-platform play could take place, summing it all up with:

“This connected ecosystem across all the different devices is definitely where I think the future of gaming is going; you don’t have to do it as a developer, but you have the capability and I think a system like Xbox Live across all those screens where you know who someone is and who their friends are, what their Achievements are and their progression is really critical to that.”

Shadow Run for the Xbox 360 allowed PC gamers to play with Xbox 360 gamers, something that did not see as much success as had been hoped for, but that had demonstrated cross-platform play in action. There was also Skulls of the Shogun, he mentioned, which is available on multiple platforms with cloud-centric game saves, allowing gamers to play on different devices.

Spencer also talked about the Achievement system, among other things, confirming that a change will be seen when the Xbox One launches, though he didn’t go into detail. According to Spencer, Microsoft is looking to lay out more information later on this month, and that we’ll see an “‘expansion’ of what Achievements are.” Some details were already provided this past summer, however.

Yeah, word from the original implementation of that system was that (as you would expect) pc gamers just absolutely DESTROYED the console folks in all the FPS stuff, and that was why it was canned for the 360. Mouse+Keyboard is just much quicker and more precise than gamepad for that type of play. However, the cloud saves idea is cool and shouldn't be tough to implement (since it's now an X86 platform), however, I'm sure they'll expect you to purchase the game twice or more.

Cross platform can be good or bad. In terms of FPS, it would be bad. The best of the best of the best FPSers on a console are nowhere near the best players on a PC. And average vs average? It would be lambs to the slaughter.

I don't have a source, but I could have swore I saw an article that said the Xbox One will support keyboard and mouse.

Yeah, but the vast majority won't use one, and forcing your player-base to use a mouse/keyboard from their couch to be competitive probably isn't a good idea.

Yeah, but then it would no longer be in Microsoft's hands. They give you the tools to compete. It is up to you to use them or not. Either way, if I can use a keyboard and mouse, the idea of the Xbox One goes up in my mind. I mean, I'll likely only be playing a few select exclusives(Halo 5, for example) but it will be so much better with controls that don't suck. I almost couldn't finish Halo 4 because of how unresponsive the controller was for a FPS game. But I will say outside of FPS and RTS games, a controller isn't really that bad. Sure, I would still prefer keyboard+mouse, but I can live with a controller for a lot of games(some I even prefer a controller...like on turn based JRPGs).

Just because the hardware supports a keyboard and mouse doesn't mean the games will.

Microsoft released a new privacy statement today. IGN summarizes it nicely.

The short version is: nothing that can identify you gets sent to Microsoft -- it resides locally on your machine. What does get sent to Microsoft is deleted at the end of your session.

They also helpfully remind people that other people may record their online multiplayer gameplay because it's essentially a public venue, and goes into what their new DVR recording stuff will and won't record (visual stuff, but not live audio chat, essentially).

So.. way less evil than people feared.

That's not to say, of course, that the government won't strong-arm them to change it if left unchecked, but there's always "Kinect Off."

Which, again, unless it's "Kinect, unplugged," no sale.

That's apparently an option if you don't trust the "kinect off" setting.

I barely trust my closed yet powered phone in my pocket or my own automobile as a confidential environment. Therefore, trusting Microsoft (and therefore the government) with the equivalent of a ready-made monitoring device? No thanks.

See our Google convo this evening for reference. lol
