Gameplay:

Mechs and Infantry? Seamless transition between the two? Yes please.

Although, like The Division, Not entirely sure if no singleplayer is a good thing. But eh, I could use a couple of new MMOs.

MMO? Really? Because the dropship there screamed "team-based matchmaking lobby" to me, a la World of Tanks, MechWarrior Online, etc. That's setting the MMO bar pretty low.

Wait, he was in a mecha, and then he got out of it? I don't understand the concept.

Continues to look like a mindless AAA game I could play and get some fun out of with friends.

Wall walking, autofollowing mechs and jetpacks might have sold me on this.

I was waiting for this thread to bubble back up. PC Magazine was mad impressed with the Beta they saw.

Just saw this on The Escapist last night.
6v6 Arena gameplay, but this review claims "in addition to the online multiplayer competition, there will also be an online multiplayer campaign".

Got my open beta key, have only had time to play through the tutorial, but this game is pretty, and damn the mechs are cool. Can't wait till I have some time to get in there and tear it up.

Wish EA wasn't pushing the "PC games are 60 bucks" thing though. Ah well.

Ditto, DR. Got it downloaded late last night (I didn't realize it was open beta this weekend, thought it was still closed and didn't get an email, of well) and played the tutorial and one multiplayer match on the XOne.

The pilot movement felt fluid, I love the way the smart pistol works (because shooters on console controllers can bite me, but I was vindicated by no Origin sign in on the Xbox One, so I get to maintain my boycott and play.. also because Shadowrun), the balance between pilot and titan didn't feel horribly skewed (I played a control point map and, if anything, manually piloting the titans felt a little superfluous because all the control points were inside buildings), and the game played fast paced and exciting.

I'm definitively open to the hype that this is a serous system seller that will shake up the Halo/Call of Duty/Battlefield market.

Is rather be playing this on PC, from a graphics and controls standpoint (though the Xbox One acquitted itself admirably with smooth performance and good texture work, my PC would give me the option to pump out 1600p and probably eventually Oculus Rift support, maybe?), but between my local friends being more inclined to either already have or pick up an Xbox One rather than a serious gaming PC and my Origin boycott, I'm staying on the Xbox on this one for at least the foreseeable future.

I missed the Beta this weekend, but kept hearing from all my gamer friends how awesome it was.

I've been looking forward to this one. After my disappointment with Battlefield 4, I need a good FPS shooting fix. And this looks right up my alley. I'll check out that video when I get home this evening. Thanks, Crim!

I have to say, though. The next few months are gonna eat a big hole in my funds. Thief 4, Titanfall, Diablo 3 expansion, and Elder Scrolls Online. Ouch.

You could just wait until Elder Scrolls goes free to play. Also until the reviews hit about the D3 expansion, because it could be the redemption of D3, or the last bullet it needs.

Holy crap, this game rocks. Fast, tactical, and I love that the mechs aren't overpowered. They're actually much more susceptible to pilots than other mechs. Even with 6v6 (with bots filling in the gaps), it feels like a huge battle, with no downtime. Very cool.

I suck. I knew this would be the case, particularly on the console controller. It still makes decade-ago me slightly sad.

I guess that's what I get for passing on Halo and CoD for that decade, now. Aging and atrophied reflexes and whatnot.

It's still fun as ****.

Yeah, I'm still having issues with the guns, I'm not sure if it just feels like I'm missing a lot, or that's just the nature of the game. I'm still coming out on top in some matches, so I guess I'm not doing too badly.

Just read something I hadn't heard yet:

Quote:
The first interesting fact is that there are no microtransactions. This detail, sadly, has become news in the modern gaming industry, and it's even sweeter due to the fact the one-time use "Burn Cards" of Titanfall even provide the perfect vector for someone to ram consumer-hostile monetization into the game.

Instead you earn these cards in the game, they provide no long-term benefit, and the game’s economy seems to be completely closed. Many next-gen games seem willing to test the boundaries of what can be sold to the player, making Titanfall's ability to turn down the extra revenue stream even more impressive.

That is excellent! I'm sure EA will try to squeeze some cash out of the DLC route, but thank goodness it's not going to be pay to upgrade every 5 damn minutes.

Being able to mute someone with a single left click on their name in the lobby screen may be the greatest addition to a shooter ever.
