So I have decided to keep a "Wall of Shame" which I will mark every time I have a cigarette. Last week started good and ended poorly. This week so far... I have not smoked. But damn yo.. this cough of get everything out is killing me.

You will get through it, it will have been worth it. The health benefits will make you happy. The financial freedom of not spending a couple hundred or so a month on cigs is going to be joyful. The lack of burn holes on relatively new clothing will make you appear neater. The people you bludgeoned to death in withdrawal rage will rest easier knowing your life is better.

Remember, too, that the cough is not only getting stuff out, but also probably due to the fact that you can actually feel your throat now. One of the things that nicotine (or cigarettes) does is slightly numb your throat. Keep your whistle wet, that should help.

Right on. Coughing is part of the process. Try to keep your mind on the end goal and not get discouraged with these things...there is a reason why no one says that quitting is easy. But totally worth it. Sounds like you're doing good, keep it up.

Oh, and, yes, it's worth it. Some day you'll walk up the steps and not feel like heaving and puking. Or, maybe you will, but it will pass in 3 minutes instead of 15. Or, maybe you'll get on a bike with Mus and not get dropped on the first climb :) (cycling is what keeps me nicotine-free, for the most part).

Not to steal DS's thunder, but in the three months we've been cycling together, he's ridden almost 150 miles, and we're doing hour long rides of ~10 miles now.

I'm so **** proud of my Pedalwan.

Not really. I thought of "vaping" to cut back, but **** that. I want to be done with my unhealthy lifestyle. Cycling is been increasing my desire to succeed.

And before anyone can cock up the discussion about cyclists not belonging on the road....

The neighborhood we ride in has extended cycling lanes, and we show utmost courtesy to the other cyclists, pedestrians, motorists, etc. out there so that we can have harmonious interactions with others on the road.

I know that, but it can help with cessation, DS is only one week in, and I have some friends that have successfully quit because of them. It's no more unhealthy than chewing on a piece of nicotine gum.

oh... I thought you were supposed to rub two pieces of the gum together and then inhale the smoke... I was doing it wrong I guess.

Yeah most doctors will tell you that patches and gums and any other nicotine products just extend your withdrawal period and make you more likely to stop quitting or relapse.

I am curious how long your e-cig friends have stayed on the wagon so to speak.

Also, I agree that eCigs are not quitting....everyone I know who has used them has "quit" real tobacco for a couple of months, tops, before they went back to smoking. The gum, patch, or any nicotine replacement isn't the best way either...cold turkey is the best way, in my humble and experienced opinion. Get it out of your system quickly instead of dragging the withdrawals out over a long period.

Chantix worked for me (not nicotine replacement pill).

I only know two people that have used them in an attempt to quit as opposed to just being an alternative. One of them used e-cigs for about 6 months, gradually using less and now he's smoke-free. The other has been using his for maybe a year, he isn't completely off of it but I think it's more of a physical habit than anything. I almost never see it used but he does still carry his around with him.

Well last week (From Monday to Friday) I only had 2 smokes, then I had a real bad day on Saturday and smoked most of a pack. I had an extra 2 on Sunday... but that was it. I have not had one since around 11am Sunday morning.

I am unsure if I have said this before or not... but I am almost wishing that I had NEVER smoked and instead had a relapse and gone back to doing Meth... I would have been more confident in my ability to quit that...

but I am tired of it. I have been doing it since I was 12/13 years old, I have quit several times. I have restarted several times. I want to be done, I want to get rid of the addiction

DS,

Anytime you relapse...just keep quitting. You will be successful, just look at your track record! Quitting smoking is the hardest thing to do.

Think about having to drag an O2 tank around when your 60...that might help ;)
