OK, this is probably the only time I'll get to tell this story in public.

We used to go to an Italian restaurant in Malibu occasionally. Before Glee hit (heck, before it was out, I think), we saw Jane Lynch and her partner having dinner. They had a loud conversation with someone at the next table, probably a producer or something. She mentioned that she had just gotten a Porsche. The guy says, "Oh, a Boxster?" Jane looks at him and says, "Do I <i>look</i> like a Boxster?"

Either (a) that was the future producer of Glee, or (b) the guy used the line in <b>A Bug's Life</b>.

That's not the official/original Bavarian flag. That's a very recent stylized variant. The original Bavarian flag is just a single band of white over a single band of blue without any checker pattern or coat of arms (see the spoiler in my previous post.)

It is one of the two official Bavarian flags, minus the coat of arms. I didn't think that mattered for this discussion, as it is rather obvious that the striking similarity of the logo and the flag are intentional. It is not a "very recent stylized variant". Take a look at the vaunted Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavaria , you'll notice the flag in the info box on the right. I'm not sure what you are trying to prove here.

No one said "replica". I said "representation". Of course it isn't a replica. One, it's round, tiny and has the letters "BMW" on it. Two, you can't trademark a sovereign state's flag (BMW ran into that problem when they were getting the trademark).
The Texans logo isn't a "replica" of the American Flag; the Texans logo is a representation of the Texas state flag.

Yes, the checkered flag is a "very recent stylized variant." The checkered flag was created for the first time in 1953, long after BMW was already using the logo, and long after Bavaria had ceased to exist as a separate national entity.

OK, Taly, you win.

The BMW logo is a representation of one of the official Bavarian flags, the lozengy, not the "striped Kingdom of Bavaria flag [that] was used until 1918". The BMW logo is not a propeller. It's erroneous to state: " That's what their logo represents". They did not exist as a company entirely to make aircraft engines for the Luftwaffe. No, we should not boycott BMW until they change their logo.

That was kinda my point. Hugo Boss made uniforms for the Nazis. So what? (1) Making uniforms was not a war crime and (2) Nobody currently alive was involved in that.

This would be why I drive an A4.

I think my AF retirement present to me might be an A7.

The A7 seems oddly proportioned to me. I really don't care for the back end of it and the roofline slope.

Now the A5 (or preferably the S5), now that is sex on 4 wheels, and probably what I'll replace my A4 with eventually.

I like the looks/shape, but I can see how others would not *shrug*

I'm not a huge fan of any of them, but the little 3-series BMW sedans always appealed to me. A guy I knew owned one, and I've never driven a vehicle that held the road like that one. I'm not a car enthusiast, but the thing was an absolute blast to drive.

I'd never pay for one, but I certainly appreciate them.

I've driven them and there is a reason why the BMW tag line is "The Ultimate Driving Machine". I looked very closely at a 3-series coupe and may again at some point.

Unfortunately for Talya, BMWs can't be pirated off the internet yet.

Pretty much. It should be a crime to photograph the car from that angle. It doesn't help. Or does help, depending on your insecurities.

I've always gotten a kick out of BMW's (and Mercedes as well, I guess, if you consider the AMGs) pricing. The 3's MSRP starts in the low 30's ($32,550) and run up to $68,750. Not too many brands that you can buy one or two of the same model and spend the same amount of money.
