I just got one this last weekend, been playing around with it mostly, but it's pretty slick. Easily connected to my Exchange 2007 server at work, and while it doesn't have quite as robust a set of apps like the iPhone, it also has the advantage of not being an iPhone (definite plus in my book).

Any "must have" apps to get for it?

I don't have a Droid, but I do have a G1. They're both based on Google's Android, so the apps are compatible. Other than the standard suite of Google apps you should already have (Browser, Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube), I also installed:
Droid Facebook app
Astro File Browser - it allows you to both browse the SD card and also acts as a process manager
Bubble - it uses the built-in accelerometer to act as a level
ConnectBot - an SSH client
Google Voice
Movie Finder
Orienteer - it allows you to access the GPS raw data and also access the built-in compass
Pandora
Ringdroid - allows you to snip up mp3 files and make ringtones
Shazam - uses the microphone to hear music that's playing and identifies the song/artist/album
Shop Savvy - take a pic of a UPC, and it'll find the cost of the product at nearby stores and online
The Weather Channel

I also have a few games, like PapiJump, Jewellust, and Labyrinth Lite

All of the apps, other than the Droid Facebook app, are available on the Android Market.

That's pretty frickin' sweet.

What's the difference between Droid and Android? Until the other day I thought they were the same thing.

I was kinda praising the Droid in the other thread hehe...I'm pretty blown away by it. It has several big advantages over the iPhone (multitasking being one of them).

For example, you can run Pandora while browsing the internet or running other apps, something the iPhone can't do, have multiple web browser windows open, etc.

Droidlight is also a pretty handy little app - it turns the flash on the camera into a flashlight you can click on and off, and you can run it while filming, to record videos in the dark.

And already, it seems like a lot of iPhone apps are being ported over to the Android OS, so with the Droid being pushed so heavily (and it sounds like it's really selling well due to the push), I think we'll see a lot more apps coming soon.

So far though, the only thing I think I really miss, is there's no "pinch and zoom" on the Droid, though that could be updated in the OS because the phone itself does support multi-touch.

Oh, and full flash support is coming to the Droid in early '10 btw.

Nah. Little bugger convinced me to remove the restraining bolt and he took off while I was drinking my blue milk...

Anyone seen any good video players they'd recommend? My wife just picked up a Droid the other day. From what I gather so far, say you want to watch a movie - you use a file manager (3rd party install or do Android phones generally come with one preinstalled?) to browse to wherever you've put your video files, which you've converted to mpeg4 because that's what the media player that comes with Android knows how to play.

That's the one big thing so far that jumped out as being not-as-easy-as-the-iPhone. My daughter had already figured out how to launch iTunes and play a movie by the time she turned two. Unless there's a slick media player app that remembers the last path used to media files, and maybe includes album art/icons rather than just filenames, playing media apparently will raise the bar to "well, can you read?"

Edit: P.S. - limited access to the Android Market unless you're on a phone running Android makes Jer a sad panda.

Just click on the "Gallery" icon in the home screen, it'll show folders for your photos, camera videos, download videos, etc. Nothing needed to download, etc.

I think my favorite quote about the new prequels comes from Kevin Smith: (paraphrasing here, I can't find the quote at the moment) "Everyone was complaining that he was "too whiney". Of course he was whiney! That's who's going to be the biggest evil bastard in the galaxy! It's not some badass, it's some emo kid that has mommy issues!"
