Saccades are freaky. The "Your Lying Eyes" lecture at Dragon*Con's Science track this year talked (and demonstrated) a lot about them. It was very fun.

Yeah, I've known for a long time that you're effectively blind during saccades, but I didn't know that it **** with your perception of time.

Here's another freaky thing I never realized:

Stare into your eyes through a mirror. Now tilt your head to one side or the other. Your eyes will rotate in their sockets to stay right-side-up (only to a point, of course).

Huh. In high school gym class, I once made an awesome save while tending goal for a soccer game because this (or something like this) happened to me and I perceived that I had all the time in the world to put my foot in exactly the right place. I thought I'd suddenly developed some kind of superpower but it never happened again
