Exactly. They thought "the rich" would pay for it, out of their "fair share".

What group is that? I've seen one group make it an obligation and tax for all citizens, but I've yet to see anyone attempt to make it a right.

That's a typical center-left position. It's not even extreme. If you want extreme, I can link you to individuals that believe it is immoral to buy longevity in any fashion, everyone should get the exact same health benefits, and buying additional ones should be highly illegal on pain of execution. There's more people out there that believe this than you think.

What there are, are a lot of people that talk trash on the internet. It's very easy to take a really extreme position just to piss off people that disagree with you when protected by anonymity.

Believing healthcare in general is a basic human right is pretty extreme. Most people say that without thinking about the implications of it. When confronted with what that actually means, most people will tend to back off it. People like to say all kinds of things that it would be nice if everyone had are "basic human rights" until they're in a format where they can't just troll their way to victory, or act like an *** and just denigrate people for disagreeing.

Er, do me a favor. Google "why health care is a right" and poke around. It is an extreme position, I agree, but one that's has fairly broad support.

Yes, some of that support is based on a lack of understanding as far as what that would mean, but there's some highly educated people making a case for it.

This. If health care as a basic human right is new to you, you're not talking to liberals as much as you think you are.

My company recently hosted a client symposium that was attended primarily by clinicians in clinical administrative jobs (Quality directors, infomatics specialists, other high-level nursing positions, and physicians, etc.). Our keynote speaker, Donald Berwick, former head of Center of Medicare Services (and btw, declared candidate for the Mass governor race), delivered a speech to a room of about 400-500 of the aforementioned people. He declared health care to be a basic human right and stated that society needs to change so that everybody sees it as such. His speech revolved around this view and how that view would improve health care. His speech was met with great applause from the group. This belief is rather common (not saying a majority) amongst health care decision makers.

Of course it is, because they want a garaunteed income and job security. If they can market to others and delude themselves into beleiving their services are rights then their services will always be provided and their jobs are secure.

They are just like Winston Zedmore in Ghostbuster "Lady if there is steady paycheck in it I'll believe anything you want".

I'm already quite familiar with it. There's a big difference between "it's a right" and "it's a basic human right" in terms of the mentality and behavior of the advocate.

Also, you can do with the "er do me a favor" stuff. I know you're fishing hard for an argument, but it's ok, really. I don't need help to be informed, thanks.

No one said anything about it being new.

There's not a steady paycheck though.

Who owns US debt?
What happens when you can't pay debt?

Learn Chinese, folks.

I wonder why the liberals would prefer bowing to the Chinese rather than the conservatives? The track record of the two suggests the liberals are not "big picture" thinkers.

How is China going to collect?

It has to get over here to be able to do that.

Well, hello Mr. Sensitive. I am of the view that the burden is on the poster to make their point. Since I did not feel like bouncing around all over the place finding random links to demonstrate how much volume there is, I instead asked you to do me a favor and perform a quick google search to demonstrate. Since it was my burden, not yours, I considered it a favor.

Read the "Thirty-Six Stratagems"

The Chinese government plays by a different set of rules. Here in the US it's all about the short game, 'cause the politicians just want to get re-elected. The Chinese don't need to get re-elected. They play the REALLY long game, and they play to win.

Not who you think.

US citizens own most of the US debt.

Japan and China each hold about 8% of the US debt.
