Yeah well we all have different senses of humor. I thought you guys were joking about buying 35 dollar non-existant ships in a game that is pre-alpha but here we are.

Yeah, because no one has ever **** up a thread in Gaming before. It's the internet. Jokes don't always translate well to text.

In all seriousness, if this was intentional vaporware, it's something that could only be done once.

With $22m why would you need to do it again?

I used to be like you. Honestly, I'm still not very keen on crowd funding for the very reasons you state. However I took an objective look at what Star Citizen was offering and I figured it was worth $40 to get the chance to see it happen. At this point it is essentially a pre-order. Hey, Amazon.com could disappear tomorrow with the money it's taken from unfulfilled orders. Sure there'd be legal recourse ((where SC backers would just have to pound sand)), but ask Bernie Madoff's victims how that's working out for them.

I'm quite sure Chris Roberts has enough money to not need to do it - and thereby trash his reputation, and possibly expose himself to fraud charges - in the first place.

People's cynicism is not evidence. If you think this is some sort of scam, make a Hellfire thread where we can flame each other properly. If not, kindly let those of us enjoying it, enjoy it.

Based on my admittedly limited, mostly table-top gaming experience, It's probably not as cool as the commericial made it out to be. While the fact that there is no gravity means he doesn't have to worry about recovering from his stall, he's killed all speed and if he doesn't "get you" with that shot you're likely to quickly take yourself out of his envelope, or at least his fire arc, (assuming you need forward thrust to maneuver).

Notice he only did that after the other ships were gone too. He would have been a much easier target for anyone else as well.

I'm going to go with "that was choreographed to look familiar to a bunch of folks used to watching aeronautical combat movies and not reflective of the flight engine that's not yet fully implemented" on that move, actually.

Mostly because there's no reason he would have flared nose-up when firing his retro-thrusters (and a somewhat compelling reason not to have done so, as he just needs to bring that nose back down to get a shot, delaying his strike). As far as putting him at a disadvantage by killing his speed, Rori, that's going to be interesting to suss out when we get our hands on the dogfighting. I'm not sure whether holding on to speed will be as critical as in traditional energy fighting terms in gravity-bound engagements, because it won't be a simple matter of trading position for speed in zero-g.

I think regardless of how that shakes out, you're dead on about being more vulnerable to other fighters by executing that move, though.

Hey, look. We haven't had a roster lately.

Elm - 300i; Exploration, Light Trading, Combat
Ulfynn - 300i; Explore, Combat, Mercenary/Bounty Hunting
Kaffis1 - Avenger, Gladiator, Freelancer, Starfarer, 350r; Exploration, Trading, Escort, Overclocking
Kaffis2 - Caterpillar, Cutlass, Constellation, Hornet, Idris-P, M50, Retaliator, 315p; Smuggling, Bounty Hunting, Combat Support, Piracy?
Foamy - 315p; Exploration, Trading
Ranelagh - Super Hornet, F7C-S, Cutlass; Escort, Location and Recovery Services, Smuggling, Mayhem and Exploding
Lonedar - Super Hornet, Freelancer; Combat, Explore, Salvage, Bounty Hunting
Lonedar2 - Aurora LN
Aquila - Freelancer, M50; Smuggling & Racing/Scouting
Juneau - 325a
Halloween - 315p; Exploration, Escort, Mercenary
Müs - 315p
Darkroland - 315p
Rorinthas - Aurora
Diamondeye - 300i, 325a
Grouse - 300i, Gladiator
Midgen -315p
Khross - Aurora

Hmm. I'm to the point where I need to break down my ships between either 2 or 3 characters, but I'm having difficulty because that "To Pirate? Or Not To Pirate?" question is hanging in the air. Since I don't have a strong preference either way, I feel like I want to throw a couple polls at you guys, but don't want to spam new threads since I'm limited to one poll per new thread on these boards... Maybe I should go create a surveymonkey account or something.

Kaffis:

I upgraded to the 315P. Same playstyle, likely. Light on the combat, if I am able.

Also, as I have a 3+ year old Dell desktop, I am nowhere near able to play even the Alpha when it is released. I may upgrade nearer to release so at least the tech for the minimum requirements may be a lot cheaper by then.

I have never been primarily a PC gamer so my rig was never even close to top of the line. This game has changed all that. I will make sure to have something that will rock this game in all the glory it will be meant for.

Why didn't he just pivot his ship backwards so he could fire to the rear while maintaining forward momentum?

They made 24mil thanks to the Hornet.
24 Mil unlock:
Public Transportation System – Need to get from one place to another but don’t have a starship? We’re building a galactic transportation system. You can travel via transport from system to system in Star Citizen and even ship items (like a ship you need moved to another hangar.) With this stretch goal, we’ll expand this system: star liners, long range transports, charter ships and flyable shuttles!

25 Mil goal:
Enhanced Alpha – We will use additional funding to build a wider alpha test than we had originally intended for the first phase of Star Citizen’s launch. The initial plan was to first launch servers in North America and then expand to areas such as Europe and Australia to decrease latency in these areas, perfecting the game as we improve the experience around the world. This funding will allow us to invest in a wider infrastructure for our early testing, spinning up remote servers earlier. Hitting this goal will also allow us to increase the number of remaining alpha slots. Extra alpha slots not only means more Star Citizens will travel the ‘verse at launch, but that we will receive more feedback and more stress testing. This in turn will allow us to better balance and enhance the Star Citizen experience!

26 Mil goal:
Enhanced Capital Ship Systems – In addition to the command and control systems we’ve already outlined, we’re going to expand capital ship functions! Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering, that will make commanding a capital ship feel even more immersive.

With the additional info on the Hornets I think I need to update my areas of interest to include Smuggling for the FC7-S as well as Mayhem and Exploding for the FC7-M.

The extra seat in the -M makes bounty hunting an attractive option that I might just explore.

Okay, just for kicks I threw this together to help get a better idea for what we're thinking. I'm just spitballing, here, so don't sweat it if you think I'm off on a few questions or whatever. Give it a best guess and move on. ;) I included a few questions that might seem strange for us, but given we've got some friends that might reply, and this kind of thing might be useful someday for recruiting, I figured I'd include them.

If you don't mind taking a minute, click here and fill it out.

Thanks, Darkroland. Mostly, I'm just trying to gauge the mood as I sit here pondering what I want to do with my two accounts' characters.
