Apparently the bug-girl is a legitimate minor character from Morrison's run. I had assumed she was made up for the movie, so I looked her up. The only license taken, really, was the tattoo thing, which was obviously to hand-wave a way to make her able to "fit in" before mutants were common knowledge.

Now, why they'd pick her is a good question; but it's no more egregious than picking an abortion of a character created by Chuck Austen and then quickly agreed to quietly pretend never existed, either. (Azazel)

Since the movies at no point have indicated that Cyclops and Havok are really related (other than their powers are the same color) Havok could be Cyclops's father reasonably well. (and it avoids that whole messy Starjammer, Skrull, Kree and god knows what else that Corsair drags into the picture.)

Why can't they just leave the characters alone as written? I don't get the compulsive need to change characters for a movie.

if they turn Havoc into his father... I hope someone sets their testicles on fire, even if the movie is awesome as hell.

because you can't squeeze 40 years of character development for 5-10 characters into a 2 hour movie?

I have not seen the movie yet, and I have some concerns...

1- If this is NOT a reboot... this will put Havoc somewhere between 30-45 ish years older than Cyclops.

2- Even if it IS a reboot.... why for does angel have girly parts and insect wings??

Spoiler:
This is one of the basic reasons I believe this is a reboot. Comic Book universe has Havoc as Cyclops little brother. You might change the older younger order around, but removing them being brothers should not be an option. Other wise you have to kill off this Havoc to have a son or nephew with the same name and powers.

Spoiler:
Already covered, but this isn't the Warren Worthington, III version of Angel this is another character with the same name. Kind of like there have been two Human Torches

Yes, but the question remains... why the hell would you make those changes? They're unnecessary.

Very true. I find it amusing that X-Men No. 1 came out less than a year after the Cuban Missile Crisis, and that the team, Professor X, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, Angel and Marvel Girl (Jean) were trained and working together, though kind of hotheaded for the most part.

1) This movie really made me miss Russians and Nazis. They were just so much bigger than the movie villains we have now.

2) Emma Frost is hot.

ick. she did nothing for me.

Liked the new Mystique though. The girl playing Moira was the most attractive though.

Saw this today and totally hated Emma Frost b/c January Jones was a really poor casting choice.

Somewhat mixed feelings on the movie - I loved some bits, wasn't terribly keen on others. Was totally not a waste of my time or money, though, and I'm looking forward to more movies to follow.

January Jones was a terrible Emma Frost. Not "Halle Berry-as-Storm" bad, but definitely not Emma. The rest of the cast was very good, though. I do have to say

Was there an extra clip after the credits? I stayed after mine and there was nothing, but at least one post I read mentioned that in the after-credits Darwin was resurrected (on the moon?)

No. I stuck around during the credits and the guy running the projector turned off the sound and told the handful of us that were waiting that there wasn't an extra clip.

Stayed to the end of the credits, no extra clip.

Different company does the X-men movies.

Saw this last night and really liked it. I didn't have high expectations so it greatly exceeded them. Some really good moments in this movie.

Matthew Vaughn is out, and Bryan Singer is directing again. Oh joy.

The sequel is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, btw.

In retrospect, Bryan Singer's two X-Men movies weren't all that great. They seemed great because Marvel hadn't gone on its Ironman/Hulk/Thor/Cap/Avengers kick yet.

Sony actually made a good Spiderman movie this year, but they had to reboot the franchise to shed the baggage of the last ten years. I suspect Fox would need to do the same with X-Men to make it work.

If there's a franchise that can ride the time travel shark to victory instead of jumping it (okay, okay. More like if there's a franchise whose fans have contracted a riding Stockholm Syndrome for time travel plots after being beaten about the head and shoulders with them repeatedly), it's X-Men.

No, the folly here is rewriting one of the most well recognized comic arcs in Marvel history to tie the massively popular "This is a reboot, right?" reboot to the canon where you killed Cyclops, replaced him with Wolverine, team leader, and then offed Professor X and resurrected him by claiming he transferred his consciousness to his twin that went brain dead in the womb yet was apparently kept around on life support for 60 years or so because that's what rich people can afford to do.

If they're going to do time travel, then I hope and pray they'll bring in Cable. And I pray even harder he's played by Bruce Campbell.

That would be the greatest x-men movie in this, and any, time period. If you have to bring in some cheese, then make it the expensive ,smelly, European kind! Don't do it half-assed!

(Ok this doesn't look too cheesy. But I'd really like to see a tongue-in-cheek, Big Trouble in Little China style X-Men. :( )

Why do people remember 'Days of Future Past'? Wolverine died. That is it. That and Giant Purple Robots that kill mutants. Kitty Pride is given the mind ride back to try to prevent something that leads to the mutants being put in camps. Not that it helps anything... Cool story but it doesn't change the future.

As for the events of Last Stand...yea, that **** with Professor X was pretty stupid. I mean, yea. It is a comic book movie but if all of that is true. He had a twin, who was just brain dead...shouldn't he be able to walk? I am sure they paid some engineer a *** load of cash to come up with Chucks chair but he should be able to walk now.

Wait, they resurrected Professor X inside a brain dead twin's body in Last Stand? I don't remember that.
