Correct me if I'm wrong, but even after the PS4 launches, those of us with the PS3 still be able to use PSN, Netflix, etc., right? Sony hasn't announced any plans to drop PSN / streaming support for the PS3 anytime soon has it?

Haven't seen anything regarding that. In fact, they haven't even stated that you need PSN Gold to use your streaming apps (Netflix/Hulu etc) as far as I know. The only thing that requires PSN gold that I have read is Multiplayer.

Your PSN account is the same across all of their devices. Likewise, a PS+ subscription is active across all devices. You DO NOT need a PS+ sub to use things like Netflix, never have. You are only going to need it for multiplayer purposes on the PS4. I assume multiplayer will remain free on current devices like PS3.

Looks like sony are pretty confident in their console supply this time. We'll see how much that bites them in the ***.

Don't worry about it. I am sure Sony has an unlimited supply of PS4s.

Gamestop got an unlimited allocation of PS3s, only to be limited to 5 per non-metro storefront and 10 per metro storefront.

PS Vita TV is a mini-console that will allow you to play PSV games on your TV, stream content from online providers, and also enable PS4 remote play on TV's your console isn't hooked up to. Bolded part makes this a must-buy for me when I get my PS4.

$99 alone, $150 with a storage card and controller

Ditto. Being able to extend the PlayStation to another TV? Awesome.

I am also looking forward to being able to play Vita games that I would otherwise never play because I hate hand-held gaming so much now. Cheaper than an actual Vita and I don't need to deal with the bullshit uncomfortable positions? Take my money.

Now they're stating VitaTV might not come to the west (asian markets only). I'm guessing they'll reverse that position in record time.

And I'll bet they get lauded for "listening to their player-base" rather than ridiculed for waffling when they do it, too.

Well they didn't catch any crap for announcing they were delaying their JAPANESE launch for 4 months. Unlike MS who announced Poland was SOL for a few weeks.

Based on the lack of profanity and violent sex act suggestions in the responses, I'm thinking Japanese gamers are just more mature than American ones.

Maybe Japanese profanity just doesn't translate. And it was the Polish people who got peevy with MS.

Interesting.

http://kotaku.com/report-ps4-is-50-fast ... 1308239556

Quote:
Our contacts have told us that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.

Quote:
One source even suggested that enforcing parity across consoles could become a political issue between platform holders, developers and publishers. They said that it could damage perceptions of a cross platform title, not to mention Xbox One, if the PS4 version shipped with an obviously superior resolution and framerate; better to “castrate” the PS4 version and release near-identical games to avoid ruffling any feathers.

My prediction is that PS4 is happy to go along with that, because as they move closer to PC hardware, PC ports are going to be more and more efficiently done, even without a great deal of focus.

Promoting the "we can't let one cross-platform look much worse than the others" attitude saves them from losing face to PC as much as it helps their competitor console. So if they can get the developers on board to NOT promote things like high-res textures for PC only, they save their own bacon.

Well Activation just confirmed that Call of Duty runs at 720p natively on the Xbox One, and at 1080p on the PS4.
