Man I wish we had better hot water at the house we're renting. The water heater is all the way in the garage and the master bedroom bath is all the way at the other end of the house, like 90 feet away. We get "slightly better than warm" showers.

How can you live without a hot shower or bath?? That is one thing I need...even in the summer, turn the AC up !

Well, it's hotter than hell down here in the summer and merely hot in the winter, so it isn't a matter of freezing your *** off without it being a really hot shower.

That said, it still sucks.

Ok.. I need help..

I want to cook Thanksgiving all from scratch...
So does anyone have any recipes that they would share regarding what they have for Thanksgiving?

I don't have a deep fryer, so I am just planning on roasting the turkey. But stuffing from scratch? I've never made that or ..lol...much of anything from scratch.

I vow to this year though!!

Any ideas would be appreciated. :)

I was gonna suggest the same thing, but then I held off, thinking that if you haven't done a lot of smoking prior to that, you could end up with a nice piece of leather for dinner (yes, I've had that. Thankfully family is usually very forgiving).

Roasting a turkey is a little more fool-proof, I think.

Oh, oh, I know - Kirra, you need to watch this: That will take a lot of the mystery out of it.

First question I have is what do you have on the menu?

Roasting the turkey is easy...stuffing is easy...mashed potatoes are easy...when you have grown up helping your mom make these foods. Give me an idea of what you want to make, and I can give you some suggestions. :)

The recipe on the cranberries bag makes a pretty good sauce.

I prefer my sweet potatoes not candied. Bake them.

Experiment with the recipe before the big day if you are going to make pumpkin pie. It is easy to screw up.

Green beans with slivered almonds are pretty darn good. Alternatively, sauteed onions and garlic with the green beans is tasty.

Consider a large crock pot full of mulled apple cider. The colder the weather the better the cider.

Talk to Jasmy. I get the feeling she is a pro at this stuff.

Glad you liked the video, Kirra. For the green beans, it really has to be a green bean casserole. Maybe that's just because I'm an old Midwestern casserole addict ... But, if you really want to impress people, use Alton Brown's Best Ever Green Bean Casserole Recipe. Skip the topping, though, and just go for Durkee's French Fried Onions in a can, makes it much easier (and I've never had good luck with making them myself). Seems like a lot of work, but it really comes out great.

Oh, and for stuffing, my family always made a Pork Sausage stuffing. Here's one recipe, which unfortunately doesn't quite tell you how to bake it ... We used to just use a casserole (there's that word again!) dish and bake some on the side, as well as in the bird.

Crap, I may have to cook Thanksgiving dinner now. We were contemplating going out.

My favorite way to make sweet potatoes..

Peel and dice the sweet potatoes, place in a pot of water, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until they are tender. Drain and set aside. Place butter and brown sugar in the pot, stirring until butter melts and brown sugar dissolves. Add the cooked sweet potatoes and coarsely chopped pecans, stirring to coat until heated through. Serve and enjoy.

Edit: I forgot the spices! Ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves stirred into the butter sugar mixture before you add the potatoes and nuts.

Take:
1 bag fresh cranberries, rinsed and drained
1 whole orange, cut into eighths
1 handful of walnuts
Sugar to taste

Put it all in the food processor and pulse until finely minced. Taste for sweetness...it should be tangy-sweet.

Its like cheese ball, only you don't roll it into a ball and put nuts over it Normally served with crackers

Essentially
1 large can of Armor dried beef
2 bricks of cream cheese
~1/4 cup Worcester sauce
Seasoned salt and onion powder to taste
Put through food processor until smooth and uniform.

Whatever size your turkey is, cook it at 20 minutes per pound in a 325 degree oven...unless you are cooking it in another way. I have yet to smoke, BBQ, or deep fry a turkey. Be sure to use an instant read thermometor to be sure it is cooked properly.

I like to baste my turkey with butter once it starts browning...seems to make it moister and adds a lot of flavor to the gravy. If the skin starts to brown too much cover it in foil.

I don't stuff my turkey with the dressing. I usually just add poultry seasoning to the cavities and a bit of salt and freshly ground pepper.

While the turkey is resting and you are making the gravy, be sure to use any juices from the turkey in your gravy.

Sausage wrapped in bacon. Over here I use ill' smokies cocktail sausages. Wrap in half a rasher of bacon. Bake in an oven dish till cooked, 30 mins or so depending on oven temp used for the rest of your goodies.

Serve as hors d'oeuvres or as a side with the turkey. Make plenty, this will be the one item you will not have left overs from.
