And it's going to need a name. I've been calling it "Insomnia's Folly" to myself because, hey, it went on sale at 1am local time on the livestream I'd been watching for 14 hours at the time...

But, seeing as I got it to be something we could build a squadron around, a mobile operations base and support tool, etc., I figured it'd be just a bit selfish to pick a name without any feedback or input.

Also, a thread about it is an excuse to post the new in-engine renders of the interior that came with the $26 million announcement...

Oh, right. So I got caught up in digging up the source files for the images, and forgot to finish my point.

So, aside from Insomnia's Folly, I could come up with something that used some rangery references, something completely different, something spacey cool, etc. I probably wouldn't want to do any direct references to EverQuest (sorry Ranelagh, hehe), though, because ultimately, I want it to be something that our core group of ranger buddies that have grown (a bit) beyond just being a bunch of old EverQuest players hanging out could grow into without the "in joke" being exclusive.

I guess I see Rangerdom as being something that's a broad trope that we all find at least somewhat compelling or imagine ourselves a part of, while EverQuestdom is something you either were there for or weren't.

Maybe The Longstrider? It's a D&D spell name, but you don't need to know that to get a Ranger vibe from the name.

Last couple screencaps make me feel like you're going to be playing a Doom game.

Hehe. I don't think that's final lighting. They were released as "early WIP in-engine shots." Star Citizen's lighting aesthetic doesn't seem to be super-bright idyllic Star Trek lighting, but it's also not space horror Alien lighting.

Surefall was a joke really, I was just shooting for a name that sounded like home (and I know there were only a small number of Karana Rangers in comparison).

On related news: I think I see my Ghost's parking spot.

There are a couple more poorly lighted Irdis pictures in the comlink today.

I wonder if you can dock in the irdis and log out and how that would be handled if you do.

Coming from you, that's rather... well...

I think you know what I mean.

Yes. You can even land it there.

some reason now I'm thinking about Orbital Resonance by John Barnes and the euphemism "performing the docking maneuver"

The same euphamism was in Voyage of the Star Wolf, if anyone ever read that. It's kind of a shitty book, but when you're 15 the sex scene is awesome.

Orbital Resonance is only merely naughty, not explicit. Very humorous too.

I also like Insomnia's folly. As well, looks like a pretty good landing spot for a 315p in there.
