I was on the fence until now. Crap, sign me up for the PS4 plus XBL.

I'm going with Knack, Killzone, and AC4 for day one. I will likely also be playing Resogun though that one won't cost anything.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Knack, and Injustice: Gods Among Us - Ultimate Edition.

I almost got Killzone: Shadow Fall instead, as I'm sure it'll be gorgeous, but I rarely if ever substantially play FPSes that don't have the word "BioShock" in the title.

Welp, Knack and Injustice have arrived. Time to stare forlornly at them until Friday.

I thought about doing that, bit I am probably going to just be lazy and let it download in the background while playing Killzone.

Reviews have been hitting for a couple of days and the general consensus seems to be that the PS4 has a sort-of weak launch lineup (like every console launch ever), but is demonstrably more powerful than the Xbox One and at the end of the day is more than worth the $400.

From Engadget:
Quote:
After a marathon week with the PlayStation 4, we feel confident in saying it will be worth your hard-earned money when it goes on sale tomorrow. For $400, you're getting a speedy, powerful little PC with an extremely friendly user interface -- and it doesn't look like a PC, which is a nice bonus. We may not review game consoles every day, but we know a good one when we see it. This is just the beginning with PlayStation 4, and it's a hell of a start.

Mine is shipping from Amazon. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I assume they're shipping it overnight instead of standard Prime two-day in order to avoid a Target/Xbox One debacle.

Popular Science summed up my fears about this next generation (Xbox and PS4) rather nicely:

Quote:
This doesn't feel like a step forward; it feels like a step sideways… At some point, if you're regular gamer, you'll probably have to bite the bullet. A game will come out that you'll have to play, and you'll buy the console to play it. [Popular Science]

Quote:
So while the PS4 is an amazing next-gen system, it doesn't yet have that killer can't-miss title that demands you purchase one immediately. Hopefully that changes sooner rather than later. But right now it's OK to hold off.

I have a strong feeling I'll still be buying 360 games well into next year because so many folk will wait to migrate.

It's from NBC. I suspect this will get nowhere near the forum or gaming media traction that the RROD received.

I saw that on google...

IGN is reporting it and so is Kotaku. Sony says they anticipated that 0.4% of consoles were expected to have problems which is six-sigma and imho NBD.

Yup. 0.4% is nothing; failure rates for electronics can range anywhere from single digits (small tv's) to 40%+ (laptops)

Yeah, not only are the reports making the rounds in the gaming media, if anything it appears they're being overblown.

Edit: Hell, Kotaku's wasn't even a bum display port, it was just a physically damaged one, likely from errant and careless HDMI plugging.

Looks like the 360 was rocking a nearly 25% failure rate.

I was actually kind of nervous because of the number of issues I'd heard, before the console technically had even launched. I was so crossing my fingers when I set it up.

Then got more nervous when I started it up and had no signal, but that was an issue with how my receiver was configured; once I solved that, everything was smooth sailing. Downloaded the firmware update in under a minute, (when I saw how fast it was downloading I figured I'd just get it over with), and everything's running like a champ.

If anyone knows where I can get one(the regular console, no bundle), shoot me a PM. The son was wanting one for his birthday and I miscalculated the popularity.

Wow, how the hell did I miss Injustice: Gods Among Us upon initial release? Oh yeah, because it was a fighting game. But **** beans, it's an incredible fighting game, even if you just set it to "Very Easy" and randomly button-mash your way through it not that I would know anything about that I'm just saying it could be an option for all I know shut up.

I marathoned through the campaign this weekend and when finished, I felt like I'd just watched a really kickass superhero movie.

LOL

http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/25/twit ... d=rss_semi

Quote:
Faced with an influx of living-room livestreamers and the risqué content that follows, Twitch has begun a crackdown on PlayStation 4 streams. The company has taken to its Twitter account to remind users that broadcasting via the console's Playroom feature, which uses Sony's PlayStation Eye camera to stream to Twitch and uStream, must have a gaming focus or risk having their account suspended. Most users, including the husband and wife team behind The Spartan Show, have kept within Twitch's terms of service, but others have decided the console provides the perfect platform to broadcast sexual content and host non-gaming shows. While Sony already offers the broadcasting service, Xbox One owners will have to wait until "early 2014" to stream their games -- either way, Twitch will have quite the job on its hands as gamers test the limits of their new all-seeing consoles.

Does anyone have concrete info on being able to play on PS3 to PS4? I've read that some games will allow that but it isn't an all encompassing feature.

I was able to snag a PS4 for my son. I'd like to play games with him online if possible.
