I think Talya's making assumptions based on the correct alter ego's professed attitudes towards vigilantism.

There are several ways we can be absolutely sure that Dinah Laurel Lance is not (yet?) Black Canary in Arrow.

(1) Different Caity. Katie Cassidy plays Laurel Lance. So far this season, Caity Lotz has played Black Canary.
(2) It was already announced who Caity Lotz signed on to play, so if you've been following news, you already know the current Black Canary's alter ego. (Other interesting news, Sean Maher has signed on to play recurring villain Shrapnel.)
(3) The previews for tonight's episode clearly show Black Canary dropping in right on top of Laurel.

Now, the writers could be deliberately misleading people just to piss off the observant like me (and I'm not saying the direction they seem to be going is terrible), but if I take it at face value, Black Canary is, at least for now, not Laurel.

As a Birds of Prey fan, I was quite happy to see a clock tower show up.

Hmm.

Maybe I'll have to give this a second chance. I watched 15 minutes of one episode and my takeaway was "this dung-heap is going to get cancelled any minute".

Maybe it was just a bad 15 min.

It's a slow mover, but what super hero origin starting series isn't?

Honestly, I like the slow build on the origin story. I know nothing of what happened to Oliver on the island, so seeing more and more pieces to the puzzle only piques my interest and makes me want to see more.

I'd be more bored if they blew the origin story in one wad up front. Premature originification leaves me unsatisfied and unfulfilled.

Okay, even where I'm rolling my eyes at the retconning...

Spoiler:
If Sara was alive all this time and he knew it, why is this the first time he's thought about it in over a season's worth of flashbacks?

... this is still the one show that I keep thinking about night after night waiting for that next episode.

So, what's the verdict on this? Is it better than Smallville? If so, I might give it a shot.

If you are bitter and like to kick puppies.

I am a long time Green Arrow reader/fan. I lost all interest in this show before the first season was finished. It is just the Punisher dressed up like Green Arrow. About the only way I would get back into this is if you told me Batman was going to appear in the final episode of the series to take him down. Only, unlike when Green Arrow does it, no one will die. Smallville had a tone of heart, this show is a corpse. Which I guess is ok since everyone loves Zombies and Vampires.

Raell,
Spoiler:
He goes non-lethal in the second season, if that helps.

Arrow's the best superhero show ever on TV.

Arrow is actually amazingly well done, and the Writers/Producers have done a good job of amalgamating the Dennis O'Neil/Neil Adams Green Arrow and the Mike Grell Green Arrow into a compelling vision of Ollie.

Not that that's a high bar, but you are probably right. You might have to throw the words "live action" in there, but you probably meant that.

Good point, I hadn't thought about that.

Now i'm debating internally whether Arrow is as good as Bruce Timm's DCAU.

And the jury is still out on it. Arrow is starting off a new DC continuity. The Flash is supposed to be on it this week, and there's rumors it will tie in to the new Superman/Batman movie. If they do it well, it can surpass the DCAU easily. But with only a single season and no crossover continuity yet, I still have to give the nod to the DCAU. Arrow still holds the live-action crown, though.

I didnt realize they were going to tie in, considering everyone else we have seen so far are just super-normals, even Canary.

Here you go:
http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/cws-the ... t-episode/

There will be continuity from Arrow to the new Flash show, although it looks like Barry Allen won't dawn the Flash costume until his own series starts. (I thought the Barry Allen arc was starting tonight, but apparently it won't be until episode 8...so...next week?)

So Barry Flash gets his own show. Interesting. He's still showing up on Arrow, so they are introducing Metas into the Arrow universe. I just figured when they gave Canary a tech origin "scream" they were trying to avoid Metas altogether. That's cool that they are not.

So is Ryan Reynolds as Hal part of the "New Continuity" or are we still waiting to see Lantern.

DC would rather forget that film exists, soooo....gonna go with no. I think it's the DC version of that Ang Lee Hulk film. Cinema non grata.
