What the hell, EA? And what the hell, Microsoft!?

How the **** do you pass a game that requires an Origin account sign-in through your **** validation processes?

Need for Speed Rivals is fun, and all, but if I had known that ****, I would have included it in my boycott. This had better not fly long-term, Microsoft.

Wow...

Thanks for the warning on that one....

Edit: Doing a quick search, the first article I found referencing this was at Escapist. They imply that Origin is required for multiplayer on all platforms, not just Xbox One. I'm guessing EA has enough pull get to get the Live team to approve these kinds of shenanigans...

I lolled at the PS4 porno-broadcasts. Now it is time for the XBL profane rants section:

http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/25/5144 ... in/4116279

Quote:
The Xbox One's Upload Studio is designed to help you share your most exciting gameplay clips with friends. But as some early console owners are already finding out, using profanity during those recordings can have consequences. Microsoft has confirmed to The Verge that it is handing out temporary Xbox Live bans for select gamers found to be using "excessive" foul language in content created with Upload Studio. Most users aren't being prevented from playing online games, but instead are barred from attaching Kinect camera recordings to their gameplay clips. In some cases, they're temporarily blocked from using Upload Studio at all.

"We want a clean, safe, and fun environment for all users."

Numerous users have taken to Reddit and other sites to complain about the punishment, pointing out that Upload Studio isn't explicitly mentioned anywhere in the Xbox Live Code of Conduct. These reports have also led to some confusion about whether Microsoft monitors private Skype conversations for profanity. That's simply not true, according to the company. "To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls," a Microsoft spokesperson tells The Verge. "We take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe, and fun environment for all users. Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live."

Microsoft insists this is to ensure "a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience" for all users of the service. We've reached out to the company for clarification on just what it considers to be "excessive." Upload Studio allows users to save clips recorded with Xbox One's Game DVR to their personal SkyDrive account. Microsoft has previously said it would allow customers to share those videos "without restrictions or limitations."

Hey, if you're one of the owners afflicted by a broken Xbox One disc drive, you get a free game! You get your pick of Dead Rising 3, Forza, Ryse or, uh...Zoo Tycoon. One of those things seems like a bit of an outlier.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that, Hop. How's the RMA procedure working out?

Killer Instinct is a killer app. There are a few minor disappointments (I'd love to get an introduction to some of the special qualities of other characters' normal attacks as detailed as the Dojo is for Jago, for instance), there are a few things where you go "How can they have overlooked that!?" (like the fact that, while you can have both players signed in during a local match, only Player 1 earns the KP currency used to buy unlocks), and then the small roster will, of course, grow stale over time...

But it's a rock solid foundation that is both exciting to watch masters at work on and approachable for the casual player to quickly start *feeling* like a rock star as he busts down his personal combo record in a live game.

So far, I've got a 53-hit Ultra Combo with Jago as my best Ultra, and I think I almost broke 40% with a non-ultra Orchid combo.

Totally overlooked the KI stuff, sorry. The dev team plans to continue adding characters as "expansions".

Oh, yeah. I know that. I've been following it's progress pretty closely these last 5 months. I'm not worried about it in the long term at all, so long as it gets a long term. I was just being thorough in assessing it's current state until then.

It simplifies UI navigation in the OS itself by a LOT. No scrolling through lists of stuff, no going through hierarchical menus -- you can jump straight to a lot of stuff.

You can jump straight to "Xbox off." Expect plenty of that when your brother is playing Forza.

Just using it to control the TV is amazing. Washing dishes two rooms away I can conversationally say XBox watch Comedy Central, Volume Up, Stop Listening and it executes them all.

Well, you have to confirm it, too, so it's a two-step command. The second step might be harder to execute while being punched in the gut.

It functions as an IR blaster. I wish it would do the CEC over HDMI thing, instead, but it's a neat feature for many regardless, I imagine. The latency inherent in IR blasting just doesn't quite feel as next gen as it could.

I also need to poke around and see if I can figure out DVD/Blu-ray menu navigation via voice, if that's possible. Or, you know, just see what commands my Harmony remote can execute on the X-Box One.

??? Mine plays, pause, fast forwards using normal commands. I cannot get it to navigate the menus on DVDs though without the controller. I should try the hand gestures though.

Yeah, menus is what I was talking about. I dislike using gamepads for DVD viewing. The play/pause/etc. voice commands mitigate that part of it, but... I want my Harmony remote to do the rest. And it looks like it won't (yet?). Alternatively, SmartGlass would be an acceptable substitute, there.

I don't know what a Harmony remote is and sadly my phone doesn't support SmartGlass :(

I just got emailed this by Microsoft.

I'm not all that interested in a Bone, but I'm probably going to do this anyway to see what kind of reaction it elicits.

That depends on how good the voice command is, and if it requires confirmation of stuff besides "Off."

If I can "snap to netflix" in one step rather than shut off in two, expect that instead.

Xbox One without a Kinect coming in June for $399.

IMO Microsoft should have kept Kinect and lowered the price, now they have nothing unique going for the system. It's the same price as a higher-powered competitor and I guarantee MS will be putting exclusives on PC whereas Sony will not.

In other news, Netflix and HBO Go will no longer require a Gold subscription.
