The longest movie I have ever watched was The Insider. It may not be the longest movie in terms of actual minutes that I've seen (that honor might go to Ben Hur), but it was the movie that FELT like like the longest movie I have ever watched.

Almost three hours of Russell Crowe blowing the whistle on Big Tobacco. Woo. Hoo.

Okay, just got back.

Breathtaking definitely. The 3D work and the special effects were wonderful. The action scenes were magnificent.

As noted earlier the story was hardly new. I saw nothing original

Spoiler:
Though the universal serial follicles port between animals and all living and maybe dead things was intriguing.

I just wish they had gotten a real science fiction writer to explain the concept of big gaping plot holes to them.

But shades of Rockey and Bullwinkle, was every Terran in the place an idiot?

Spoiler:
Hmm, lets build an observation post up here on this nifty floating mountain range while we look on the ground for large deposits of the anti-gravity metal upsadasium, err unobtanium. Sound good to you?

I'll still probably buy it when it goes DVD.

Thank you FarSky, he covered all my complaints about the science of the movie and then some. He did miss one point though, the planet is low-g, the Colonel says so when he's lifting weights to stay in shape in the low-g environment. That was almost the only low-g bit I noticed though. Things fell at normal rates, no one else seemed to be affected by low-g physics. The only other low-g aspect I considered appropriate were the slow plant life impeded falls of 'Cat Dancing' and Jake.

So far, 126M Domestic Box Office.

And it looks like it has legs too. In its second week, its only showing a 30ish% drop off.

We'll see what happens against Sherlock Holmes.

I saw it in IMAX 3D up in San Diego over the weekend. I really dug it. I didn't walk in with huge expectations. I'm rarely expecting the best storyline outta movies these days so when it's half way decent, or a good copy of a story I already liked, I'm usually satisfied.

Seeing it in 3D didn't really do much for me though. It almost seemed like the image quality was worse because of it.

Yeah, 100 year old mystery books are very unlikely to beat out "OMG BOOM VROOM SEXY EYE SPLOSION!"

I just went with my son and enjoyed it. Not the best movie ever, but pretty good.

I saw it four nights ago and again two nights ago, so I guess you can tell I enjoyed it quite a bit. Story, familiar. Effects, fantastic (expect for the fact that we still can't seem to avoid the problem of the skin of living creatures, or the surface of some other objects, from looking unnaturally smooth with too much of a sheen. The best example of this from the film were those black nocturnal cat-like pack predators). Although the head marine guy was a bit too much of a stereotype, I thought all the other characters were believable and well done. The main triumph of the film I thought was just the overall execution of all elements as a whole.

It might have been Dances with Wolves or The Last Samurai, but I thought it was ultimately better than either of those films or any similar film.

I liked it! Was definately one to see at the movies on the big screen. I agree about the story line was somewhat lacking..but still I loved it!

Went and saw it on an IMAX screen last night with GF and some friends. We thought the plot was mostly absurd. The graphics were very pretty though.

Saw it in IMAX 3D today. Loved it. Can't wait to take Taamar (although she probably will elect for non-3D due to her moviegoing nausea issues).

Btw, with regards to Avatar being the "world's longest movie" ... The Right Stuff has a runtime of 3 hrs 13 minutes, 31 minutes longer than Avatar's runtime of 2 hrs 42 minutes.

I meant more in regards to how utterly horrible / boring it was, made it seem like the world's longest :P

I liked it, but it wasn't like the best movie of all time either.

The special effects were pretty ****.

I found it immensely enjoyable due only to the visuals. Amazing what someone can do with 3D when they aren't worried about popping **** out and focus more on creating more depth.

During one of the general's speeches, I really felt like I was in the back of the room sitting behind 50 soldiers.

This.

Seen it 3 times already. Mostly due to friends providing me the excuse to go again. Twice on Imax 3D, once in 2D.

IMHO, it's really much better in 3D, amazingly immersive. A classic story well told. And dammit, I want an Iklan.

Saw it tonight in Real3D, it was amazing. What a beautiful film!

Can't wait to see it again on DVD in 2D and see if it's still as astounding. I definitely agree with what was said earlier about OMGJUMPYSLASHCUTACTION and the lack of it, I didn't miss it at all. :) Finally a watchable action film again!

Maybe I need to try it again in 3d, sounds like it makes a big difference.

And...
Spoiler:
did anyone else think to themselves at the end, that the happy ending would be short lived, and that the humans would be back, in force, to get their unobtanium?
