Yes, please.

Though, I hope it doesn't suffer from cramming too many villains in. The Rhino can be used as a throwaway single scene, I guess, but wouldn't have to be. Electro's looking good. But then throwing in a Green Goblin intro, too?

Yikes. Don't blow your load, Sony, Spider-Man's A-list rogues gallery isn't as deep as Batman's by half. You're going to paint yourself into a corner where you're trying to hang a movie on The Vulture if you don't pace yourselves.

While I'm totally pumped they really got A list actors for the villains (Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino), that's also my main fear, that's it's going to succumb to Spiderman 3-itis where no villain got the time they deserved. Other than that, looks like some pretty kickass webswingery.

Um, then they'll just reboot it. AGAIN.

That's the thing, though. They haven't been using the reboot to recycle villains, except for the Osborns. (Osbourns? Osbournes? I don't remember how they spell it) They rebooted to Amazing because Tobey Macguire sucks, not because they wanted to reuse the Joker or Lex Luthor.

Sadly, they didn't get J.K. Simmons back in the reboot; he was the best thing about the Maguire Spidey movies.

He was, without a doubt. Of course, they haven't brought JJJ in at all, yet, so there's still hope. I do get the feeling, however, that if we don't see him in 2, he's probably not an angle they want to play. They could bring him in for 2 since 1 doesn't have much elapsed time for the press to start whipping up a frenzy. But they don't appear to be doing so.

Yep, that was just about the finest casting for a role that has EVER happened.

I should know better than to casually walk into
Spoiler:
the sequel to a Gwen-centric Spider-Man movie without some serious mental and emotional preparation.

By the end fight, when Gwen does her "this is my decision" thing (way to modernize it and de-damsel her in an authentic, true-to-character way, Webb, by the way), it was plenty obvious where it was going. And that was a possibility I'd been prepared for since Amazing Spider-Man 1, and has been a pop cultural element since before I was born. The actual death wasn't a problem.

But I was nowhere near ready for the portrayal of Peter's reaction to it. I actually just deleted the part where I had written "Garfield's portrayal" because to do so would be so completely unfair to everybody else who put work into nailing that. The montage of Peter back-burnering everything in his life to obsessively mourn for months and months, the writing beat where doing so means he wasn't following up on Harry and his scheming to unleash the rest of the R&D, and, especially, Sally Fields' accidental double entendre "Where are you going?" line really hit way too close to the mark than I was personally prepared for.

And I should have known better. But ultimately in a good way, right? I mean, that's the reason we tell stories, right? To evoke emotion and tease out the best in us in the process?

Go watch it, is what I'm saying. It's got flaws, and is probably not as good a story as the brilliantly balanced and paced Captain America: Winter Soldier. But I continue to be impressed with what Webb has done to bring a beloved American icon to the screen faithfully. Because while I'm conflicted on how Amazing Spider-Man 2 handles its villains, Marvel heroes are defined by their characters and how they deal with their complicated lives moreso than the superpowered villains they face. And Sony's Amazing Spider-Man movies have captured that beautifully.
