First, not sure anyone cares, or should care, that he met and/or lived with his uncle. Still, this has to be one of the most blatant lies told. And for what purpose? I don't get it.

Obama lived with Kenyan uncle prior to law school, White House says

CNN's Dana Davidsen

(CNN) - The White House clarified Thursday that President Barack Obama did live with his Kenyan uncle in Cambridge, Massachusetts for a "brief period of time" before attending Harvard Law School in the 1980s after previously saying there was no record of the two ever meeting.

Onyango Okech Obama, President Obama's uncle, granted permission Tuesday by a federal immigration judge to stay in the United States, where he has lived illegally for the past five decades. In his testimony before the judge, Obama's uncle mentioned that then-student Obama had stayed with him for three weeks after he was accepted into law school.

The White House was asked about their relationship in 2011 at which time the administration denied the President and his Kenyan uncle had ever met. Carney retracted that information Thursday saying that the President himself had never been consulted about their relationship.

"Back when this arose, folks looked at the record, including the President's book, and there was no evidence that they had met. And that was what was conveyed. Nobody spoke to the President," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.

"When Omar Obama said the other day and there were reports that he had said the other day that President Obama, back when he was a law school student, had stayed with him in Cambridge, I thought it was the right thing to do to go ask him."

Carney continued: "Nobody had asked him in the past, and the President said that he in fact had met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law school and that he stayed with him for a brief period of time until his, the President's, apartment was ready."

Carney said after that period, Obama and his uncle "saw each other once every few months while the President was in Cambridge" but eventually "fell out of touch."

"The President has not seen Omar Obama in 20 years, and has not spoken with him in roughly 10 years," he said.

Obama attended Harvard Law School beginning in 1988 when he was 28 after serving as a community organizer in Chicago.

Where is the lying that supposed to be going on here? This strikes me as an uncommonly silly controversy.

A president who is a lawyer and has a history of knowing he has family in the county illegally would make great sound bites. "So, how can we know you'll defend the constitution when you've already ignored it for personal reasons?"

There may also be ramifications with gaining or keeping a law license. There are rules I've heard that can kick in for lawyers knowing about illegal activities (the whole "officer of the court" thing), but I've never cared enough to check.

Indeed, and especially from the beginning. It's a silly thing to hide. That said, it was in the news enough for me to remember that they had never met. So I find it very hard to believe that Obama did not hear that same story. So, at best, he did not take the opportunity to correct it.

I think I can write that off as something trivial enough that he just didn't get around to it. There's the issues of "lawyer" and "illegal activity" Taskiss mentioned, but simply being here illegally is an administrative issue, not a criminal one (the act of entry without inspection is the crime, but people that remain here on an expired visa didn't enter without inspection.)

The law is also notably forgiving regarding immigration issues between family members. For example, if your sister were to cross the river illegally here in Texas, and you transported her to Maryland, that's not considered alien smuggling because she's a close family member and peopl don't smuggle close relatives for gain. If she were not a family member, that would be alien smuggling.

I think Obama had an aunt here illegally too that made the news and he was asked about it sometime in the recent past.

Still ... must be a slow news day somewhere for this to get reported on. I'm still waiting for someone to be fired with extreme prejudice for what went on after the Benghazi attack. This is trivial.

It's not a bold faced lie in the realm of if you can like your plan, you can keep it. It's a lie of omission, aided by an Iraqi Information Minister level of spin-doctoring by his press secretary, more along the lines of "what is the definition of is"

If you had an employee whose secretary said: "There's no evidence that my superior went out to drinking last night, how would you feel when you found out said employee went out drinking. Is it it a lie you would accept from one of your employees?

It's not, but then again, if his secretary said "there's no evidence that" - I wouldn't accept that either.

Being charitable, it does show the level of isolation his keepers impose on him though. Less charitably, it shows the level of plausible deniability they employ.

Either way, somebody's keeping someone in the dark and feeding them bullshit. If I were betting on it, I'd say the public is on the receiving end of the dark stuff. I'd like to think the president was above commenting on junk like this, but the man has interjected himself in so much local issue crap like the batman kid, the Martin case, and the great beer summit, you know he's informed.

Selectively informed. No matter what, he has no more time than any other man.

You care, incidentally, because Barack Obama is the President telling you that George W. Bush is responsible for all of the extant 4th Amendment Violations in the Obama Administration. You care because Barack Obama is the President telling you that our continued presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, the continued operation of Guantanamo Bay, and keeping your health insurance policy were just incorrect promises. You care because Barack Obama is the President telling you he was Constitutional Law faculty at a University which has NEVER listed him as a professor for any course ever.

You care because Barack Obama lies more than other politicians and lies about substantive issues that would have otherwise prevented his election.

Look, we had to make sacrifices to end racism and have our first black president.

Khross,

No, I really do not. I have completely accepted Schadenfreude as a way of life. I have become the cynical jackass I thought you were at one time. (teeheehee)

(D) or (R) they are both evil and just want to promote their own agenda, and could care less about the people.

But as a realist, I really do not expect this to change. I will do what I can to vote the way I believe, but: I expect it to be ignored if it does not fit what the government wants for itself.

We only have the writings of our forefathers to claim we know what they thought. For all we know, they could have just been a bunch of manipulative douchebags that saw this all coming and wanted it to be this way.
