I thought the new game release deserved a thread of its own since the original one is from three years ago.

Is anyone playing this now? With the death of EQMac I just bought the game and will be giving it a shot. Gonna be running a 4 person group with my brother and friend on the Midgardsormr server.

The game has reviewed fairly well and it seems like they've really put in a lot of work to justify asking everyone for a second chance.

I'm gonna be runnin' an Archer / Pugilist -> Bard most likely.

Quote:
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a great MMORPG experience on both PC and PlayStation 3. Grounded in tradition and learning from the lessons of the games that preceded it, it thrives on the strength of its excitingly varied and flexible class system and highly mobile combat. The challenge ahead for Square is to achieve the delicate balance of questing, dungeons, and FATEs for the second half of the leveling process as well as it has the first, because right now the late game bogs down in mindless grinds more than I’d like. But considering the stunning reversal of fortune that Square has achieved here, it seems like anything is possible.

I missed this thread earlier. This is the game I'm currently playing. Working up a Dragoon atm and will dual class Warrior once that's done.

So far I've been enjoying it. It took me a while to get used to how Japanese the game is, but the main storyline is really starting to grow on me.

I just got 44 on my Bard, will probably be doing Garuda at some point today. Will be my first 8-man event, should be fun.

I am really enjoying the fact that I can effectively play this game with a controller, and that I can do so from my couch if I want to. The game actually runs better with my laptop plugged into my TV because I lower the resolution so I can read all the UI elements from further away.

The hardest part of learning the game was figuring out what new terminology was synonymous with what I already knew.

PS. Warriors are broken as hell. Patch 2.1 should fix that up.

Patch 2.1 trailer looks like it's bringing a ton of good content. The 2.2 patch is also confirmed to be bringing Ramuh, Shiva and Leviathan fights.

Patch 2.1 is in progress, 3 gig download and 24 hour maintenance. Still playing, Aizle? I just hit 50 on my BRD the other night.

I am still playing. Hit 50 a week or so as Dragoon. What server are you on?

Got my Ifrit bow tonight and my Crystal Tower chest piece last night, finally feeling like a real end-game Bard. Have done Garuda hard and King Moogle but no luck on drops there.

Is no one else really playing this game? MMO of the year IMO.

Honestly, it's pretty refreshing to not have a Square Enix Store menu option. The sub hasn't bothered me at all, and I told everyone I wouldn't pay another sub ever again after quitting WoW :/

The free month with purchase will be ample to see if anyone likes it enough, and the game is often on sale - I think Amazon sells the digital download for $15 normally.

Honestly, I've gotten to prefer sub games over micro transaction or similar games by far. Every micro transaction game I've played is constantly trying to sell you something or encourage you to spend more money, and in the end it's pretty typical to end up spending far far more than I would just doing a sub game.

Our reentry into SWG has kinda flopped. I was thinking about this. What does it have going for it other than "Its Final Fantasy, dude"?

No need to apologize.. I was just wondering how I missed SWG getting a reboot... Or if you had found your way over to SWGEMU

A single player campaign story, good UI design for both mouse/kb or controller, multi-classing, plus... It's Final Fantasy, dude.

Very cool. I am endgame at this point I guess, getting ready to start learning the last instance and extreme mode primals. Still having a lot of fun.

Also, I love that many of my weapons are larger than I am.

I actually think that Garuda normal mode is harder than the Hard mode variant, partly due to gear levels and partly due to having 4 people instead of 8. I've spent more than one day with random Garuda groups from the duty finder, trying to teach them how to be successful with it.

Garuda is easy compared to Titan.

So I just finished the main storyline...

Spoiler:
Was a pretty typical FF/JRPG style storyline

But who in the HELL thought it was a good idea to place MULTIPLE (im talking like 8+ cutscenes) in that last story dungeon? I used the duty finder to run it, and apparently, I was the only one there who it was their first time. I wanted to watch the cut scenes, but the group kept pressing forward. It got so bad, it was like cutscene, finish cutscene, load NEXT cutscene, watch boss talk/seal room, finish cutscene, load boss defeated cutscene, NEXT boss room gets locked, finish PREVIOUS boss cutscene, load next cutscene... I didnt even get to SEE the final boss's fight.

I mentioned right at the beginning (being a new player, i need to be taught fights) that it was my first time there, but they just blew through with the occasional word (hug left wall here, etc)

I can understand you're trying to tell a story and all, but can't you split it up a bit for those people going through for the first time, and then put the whole thing into one long run for those just going through it for their random daily? :( So frustrating

It can be kind of frustrating when you're grouped with people that are just doing their dailies and you're new. The only way to combat that, that I've had success with, is using the Party Finder instead. It lets you set expectations and find like-minded people without dealing with randoms.

As a consolation, you can re-watch all of the cutscenes from an Inn room if you like.

Also, I know what you mean by "main" storyline, but Bahamut's Coil is quite important lore-wise, so you're not done yet :) Good luck on Ifrit HM!

It had a credits scene, its a main storyline :P

As for post stuff, the FC I hooked up with quite early (2 of'em were in a random group and thought I had way more skill at tanking than I should for a brand new player) said they'd be willing to help me on a lot of the stuff XD
