In fact, I think it's been about a week now since the last update. It's a great strip, but Burlew is indeed egotistical and flaky.

Yes. Yes he has. He has put way too much on his plate, and all of his projects are suffering.

I posted to the Table Titans FB when they announced "End of Season One" that its not **** television, you don't need to go on hiatus for a month to put out a twice a week comic.

The response was all "Well yes, it is very much like TV. We have creative meetings, writers collaboration, and stuff like that"

I wanted to write back "No, you're a lazy ****. If you can't write 2 comics a week (some of which are single freaking panels) you have no business being in this business. Also, what the ****'s up with the PVP schedule slippage? Can't be arsed anymore?"

But I didn't.

It's fine. I check his site once weekly, now, instead of daily on update days. Less reliable work from him = less ad revenue from me. I don't drop him entirely though, because he at least still manages to maintain 3 updates a week even if they're late or multiple strips an upload.

Eh, they never get any ad revenue from me anyway. I don't even know how that works. Do people actually click on ads ever? I know I don't, unless its accidentally.

Banner ads provide revenue just from people viewing them. Of course, clicking an ad is worth a lot more, but just viewing one is worth something.

Haha, wow, yeah those shield effects look great already. The additions he's talking about for shields should be great as well. Definitely some stuff coming together!

At $36 million, you’ve unlocked the first of the backer-voted systems, Tamsa:

Tamsa System – Located near the fringe of Banu space, Tamsa System features a massive central star that has collapsed into a black hole. Only two planets remain in the system, a chthonian world and a gas giant located far from the black hole’s event horizon.
For the $38 million goal, your votes have selected the “fully aquatic planet” option. Here’s the description of the system we’re creating based on your input:

Cano System is home to a G-Type Main Sequence Star that’s almost identical to Earth’s. Of the four planets in the system, only one is inhabited: Carteyna. Located on the edge of habitable zone, Carteyna is a classic waterworld. Fortunately, its planetary axis constantly keeps the northern hemisphere away from the sun, which allowed for the water to freeze into the landmasses used as the initial landing zones in 2587. Multiple attempts have been made to try to convert the thick atmosphere into something breathable, but the process never seemed to stick. In fact, over the years, every time there’s a new technological development in geo-engineering, they test it out here on Carteyna only to yield the same result. Almost fifty years ago, scientists discovered microscopic organisms in the very early phases of life in the depths of the oceans. This caused a massive uproar throughout the UEE at the prospect that they had been attempting to terraform a developing world. Carteyna was immediately placed under the Fair Chance Act. Unfortunately, Humans had been living here for almost over three hundred years and the families that had been here for generations felt that they had earned rights as residents. After years of debate in the political and scientific community, the population was allowed to stay, but only under certain conditions: future terraforming attempts have been outlawed and the Human population has been consolidated to a single arcology to minimize their impact on their environment and the development of whatever species is growing in the deep.

Go vote for something other than Unexplored Natural Wonder, folks.

Because, you know, the "unexplored" bit will be so short-lived, and I'd rather see the natural wonders spread around.

I think I voted for Lost Colony, but perhaps the same thing applies.

Lost Colony will at least remain a place with unique history even when rediscovered. They'll have strange customs and architectures not seen elsewhere, etc. That's actually a pretty cool notion.

I'd still prefer to vote for, "Lets finish what we have promised instead of adding more content" as a stretch goal, but that's just me.

Well, we've got some 100 systems promised. I'm sure not all of those have stuff committed to them. It's my assumption that stuff like the Aquatic world is going to fill in one of the systems we already have.

My impression of this whole thing is that they're just going to keep making promises to get people to give money.

Why deliver something that might disappoint when you can just keep "working to fulfill all those commitments."

Today's CommLink is a poll to decide which of 7 planned ship roles will be the ship designed in the community-designed ship competition.

Yes, and the forums are already a flutter with those who are up in arms that the poll results aren't going their way.

someone posted the following mad lib, which I found hilarious.

Quote:
Dear [insert your name here]
it came to my attention that you voted on [insert shiptype you voted for here] for the totally wrong reasons. [your vote] will not be [adjective you like about your vote] but instead will be the complete opposite.
For example:
The weapon loadout [ ]
The cargo hold [ ]
The speed [ ]
The sensors [ ]
will not be nearly as advanced as you might think because:
OP doesnt like it [ ]
It would be completely overpowered [ ]
Also a ship designed to be a [your voted shiptype] will look plain boring and not be fun to fly at all. I propose every true Star Citizen fan voting for [OPs favorite ship] for these objective reasons [completely subjective reasoning here].
I hope you guys like that you are destroying this Community with [your vote]

Sincerely
[On the level of a 12 year old stuck OP]

We were having a discussion in the Organization chat room about new gaming rigs and I came across this information:

In general there's not much benefit going from an i5 to an i7 for gaming, but that doesn't appear to be the case with the Crysis 3 engine at 1080P resolutions:

Quote:
in this review, specifically the crysis 3 engine showed to be very CPU intensive and benefitted significantly from hyperthreading
11:12:48InvaderZoidberg http://www.techbuyersguru.com/ochtgaming2.php
11:13:11InvaderZoidberg If there were ever an argument for buying into Hyperthreading, this would be it. Note that we're pretty sure there's more performance to be had from our GTX 780 - this game is thoroughly CPU-bottlenecked, at least at these settings. Add in an UltraHD resolution or perhaps some higher-level anti-aliasing, and the bottleneck would likely shift to the GPU, but at the popular 1080p, the CPU absolutely matters
11:13:23InvaderZoidberg So that's the engine SC runs on
11:13:29InvaderZoidberg so I'd expect that to be true as well.

Might be some data to take into account if you're going to upgrade for the game. I'm sure there will be tons of benchmarks that hit as soon as the dogfighting alpha comes out.

Saitek winning the brand preference in the poll today makes me sad.

Yeah, their stuff always came off as pretty cheap and ridiculous looking to me. Although, technically the winner of the poll was "I don't care, Star Citizen is what matters!" by a landslide!

It's pretty timely that they're doing this poll today after our talk in chat this morning, don't you think? Someone is watching us!

Saitek is so much the Mad Catz of joysticks that a few years back, Mad Catz bought them. And I'm not talking the Mad Catz that brought us the official Rock Band and Guitar Hero controllers or the R.A.T. line of mice, which I consider to be exceptions that are out of character for the brand as a whole. No, I'm talking about the cheap knock-off 3rd party console controllers with the turbo buttons Mad Catz identity...

Their stuff has always felt cheap and lightweight to me. I liken it to the Playstation controllers vs. X-Box controllers -- I always feel like I'm going to break a PS controller just by holding it.

Saitek's high end stuff plateaus in component quality much more dramatically than other brands that go for high end offerings. I've never liked their centering mechanisms; they use ones that feel a bit sloppy to begin with, and get dramatically worse as they wear. I've never found them to be particularly ergonomic because they go for the edgy "high tech/futuristic" aesthetic over ergonomics... I've had old-school Logitech sticks last a decade (though their joysticks started going downhill when the bottom dropped out of the flight sim market), and I haven't had my Thrustmaster quit on me yet and it's going on nearly as long.

Grouse's Thrustmaster T flight (his Christmas present from me) is fairly nice for the price. I bought it back in June when it looked like we'd have something to play it on by then (silly me). We ran a little Microsoft Flight to try it out. I guess I always figured that the saitek 52 was superior because well it was more expensive.
