My wife, who is a non guitar player, gives it a solid thumbs up. So take that into consideration as well for anyone who is new to guitar.

Dredging this thread up from the dead because Ubisoft has released Rocksmith 2014

They claim to have addressed most of the things I complained about in the original Rocksmith.

I don't use my 360 any more, so I ordered the PC version.

Here is a review at IGN.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/08/16/ ... smith-2014

The video on this page talks specifically about the painful navigation issues of the original, and how they were addressed in this version.

They also added a Session Jam feature, which sounds like it has some potential for fun.

So, I got this for xmas & just got a chance to mess with it tonight. I don't know if I'll get around to the "game" part of it, but the Session feature is awesome! There are endless combos of backing bands you can mix up. And the chord boxes are displayed on screen so you can improv easily, even if you don't have E Phrygian Dominant memorized. Good stuff.

Installing my copy now, a late present to myself. The session feature pushed me over the edge, been looking for a fun solo/licks tool that doesn't feel like work and I'm hoping this is it.

So the funniest thing so far, Rocksmith won't recognize any high end sound equipment. I have a USB guitar pedalboard that runs 24 bit audio, have used it as my primary sound for years (gaming, movies, recording, mixing, etc), no issues. Rocksmith at start? No sound device detected. I did some research online, and it won't "detect" or run through just about any high quality recording setup, I.E., the setup quite a few musicians have for recording their gear. Had to plug in a set of headphones to onboard sound to get it to work. Kind of hilarious.

On the upside, once I did that, it worked fine, and I have really enjoyed trying to play some of the stuff in the game, as well as just jamming out with the session band. Trying to learn Mastodon is a trip.

I spent some more time with this over the last week or so.

I tried out a lot of the features, and found that just about everything about this game is drastically improved over the 2013 version. And the new features are excellent as well.

I'm still not sure I'd call it 'The Fastest Way To Learn Guitar', as Ubi is billing it, but if someone already has some basic skills (i.e. knows how to put strings on, tune, etc...), this might be a fun way to improve the skills.
