Quick answer, Jail the parents as well.
Long answer: obviously the answer is too pour more money in, mandate Union membership, and kill any private or charter school employee in a 50sq mile radius for sucking away the good students.

I especially love this quote

"This is an abysmal failure," Bobb said. "It is not the fault of our kids individually, and it is not the fault of our kids collectively. It is not the kids' fault. It is the adults' fault. It is a failure of leadership."

well to be fair the headline is a bit misleading. Ther article says one parent called for them to be jailed. (obviously someone with no understanding of the legal system--probably not a parent who should be homeschooling anyone)

That just means someone said it and others cheered. I HIGHLY doubt anyone actually feels you can jail someone for this.

Or, it means multiple parents called for jail time.

Additionally, since the woman quoted is the head of an organization, it logically follows that multiple members of that organization believe as she does.

I'd rather go with what is being reported through multiple outlets than your random speculation.

I HIGHLY doubted that the government could buy ownership in Major US manufacturing concerns...

When did it become unacceptable to fail students? Little Scheißekopfs need to learn that you don't get an "A" just for showing up and having a pulse. That's bullshit. And blaming the teacher for the inability or unwillingness of the student to adequately learn the material? Education, what happened to you?

our education system is still trying to push out factory workers and blue collar workers when we are trying to become a white collar society. And the dregs of that society seem to be pushing for easier educational standards.

I keep harping on my kids that if they do not study and actually learn then they deserve to be held back grades. I do not care what grade their friends are in.

"If you want to act stupid, you are gonna get treated like you are stupid. You act like the intelligent person I know you are, you get treated like the intelligent person you are."

The problem is there are more and more parents who do their kids homework for them. And when the kid fails, it is because the parents sucks at that subject. But then test time comes and the kid pulls a 2% because he did not learn. He also had no mistakes on his paper because mommy did the homework; so the teacher does not know where the child needs focused work to improve their proficiency in that subject... so test scores drop. It is not the teachers fault. It is the dumb *** parents fault.

Don't worry DS, once those kids grow up they won't know how to do their kids homework for them :)

See it all works out in the end.

heh, funny part on that is that was the first real argument Lisa and I got into.. she was doing my sons homework for him and I just blew up about it.

When I fully explained she understood that the teacher cannot teach if the student is not allowed to fail on his own. Nor would the boy learn to stand on his own or do what he needs to do if she did not let him fail on his own. She stopped helping him and his grades went to almost completely straight A's. His issue is laziness and he rushes to get it done without paying attention.

Failure is treason, Comrade. Maybe we should arrest their families too, as... added incentive.

Probably when failing students started causing you to lose all your funding or made parents' groups want to put you in prison.

MS Word's Insert Menu - Symbol category has a whole slew of the special characters. Type your message up in Word and cut and paste into the Glade.

Middle of the road method: Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map. click on the character you want, and the alt+#### code is displayed in the bottom right.

Or just Start -> Run and enter "charmap" to open it faster.

I think you can even use it if you suspect that your keys are being logged! But I'm not a security expert so I don't know how truly effective this is. :p
