I feel like there was a balancing issue.

What a **** show. The KS now has many people withdrawing pledges. Don't think I've ever seen a KS with so many days in the negative.

Um.. What the hell? Why would you withdraw a pledge at the end of the campaign? That's the whole point of Kickstarter.

/facepalm

I'm trying really hard not to engage in some serious, grade-A, Blue-Sky-purity-level schadenfreude.

Well, OK. I'll dabble in it, just a little.

Hey guys, Pantheon is still a thing. Brad & co showed a gameplay stream for the first time today: https://www.twitch.tv/visionaryrealms/v/53850665

I am scared to admit that it seems like it could become the EverQuest I've been waiting for.

Vanguard showed a lot of promise, too.

I enjoyed Vanguard until I ran out of people to play with.

I liked Vanguard a lot; I wish I'd had a better computer to play it on at the time. My understanding was that it eventually got cleaned up and started trickling in new content and improvements but it was far too tainted to save by that time.

That stream appears to be gone, but I found this on YouTube:

And yeah, it looks like EQ.
Looks a *LOT* like EQ, actually - right down to the inventory window, corpse looting interface, and wait for it ... medding o.O

Not to mention the A_mob_ofsomesort right off the bat, the text windows, and even the graphics in some respect.

Is it just me or do the graphics look an awful lot like EQ updated to Vanguard-era graphics? Or is that common in early versions of MMOs under development and the graphics and art improve as time passes?

Now that EQ Next is shit-canned, this could be EQ, next.

If/when they make it to a release, it might be fun to check out. With what they've shown, I do have to wonder if the only market for this game is EQ nostalgic types?

So how many times does he plan to make the same game..?

Evidently at least 3. I'd say "third try's the charm" but the first try was clearly the winner.

The other thing to keep in mind is that, while it's certainly easy to poke fun at the notion of building the same game multiple times, and the early builds they've shown do show a lot of resemblance to EQ...

It's just that, early builds. When you're running on a lean staff and you want to get something up and operational, it doesn't surprise me that you fall back on implementing the bones of the system in a familiar way. By the time they've built it up and fleshed it out, it could look much more different.

It could. But I'd also not expect a human to start out with a fish skeleton.

...I don't know if that actually conveys my thought.

Could be, but after the way Vanguard went I'm leery.
