It is all over the news. Malaysian Air Liner goes off course and disappears. What do you think happened? Hollywood scenarios permissible. I'll chime in later with my wild theory.

I don't know but there's some weird aspects of this.

At first, I joked with my son that this was a huge media blitz for a LOST reboot.

The paranoid crazy bastard in my head tells me that someone has the plane and they are going to do something bad with it. Odds are, it is in the ocean somewhere.

Latest news reports that I've seen have me wondering if it was a hijacking...or it could be Midgen is correct and aliens abducted it.

All I know for certain is that over 200 people are missing and their families are in the dark as to their whereabouts and health.

Some people at work were trying to convince me that the plane is on the ground somewhere intact.

My response to that is that the only way that is likely is if it is hidden in a hangar on an Indian Navy base.

I think the most likely scenario at this point is that it went off course, either due to some kind of electronics failure, or due to a hijacking, and crashed into the sea. Possibly fairly far from the current search area.

So there's possibly some evidence that someone did a deliberate course change + hours of flight after we lost contact. That's the big thing for me.

If that's true then logically

a. It got where it was going.
b. It got shot down/blown up/crashed on the way there.

From there the possibilities are mind blowing However I'm leaning toward: someone tried to take it, and the passengers did a flight 93 and it got put in the drink.

The last two days, I've been driving around in the car, and while looking for a baseball game on AM radio have come across Larry Elder (I think), fielding calls from people about what they think happened. Talk about your wild and crazy theories. Wow, just wow.

I personally think it went down over land, in the Golden Triangle, and will be found some day. It's a very remote part of the world with not a lot of central government authority.

That being said, not sure what to make of the latest suggestion, that it turned back over Malaysia and headed over the Indian Ocean. I'm wondering if it was a Payne Stewart-type thing, where the pla ne ust continues to fly on auto-pilot after everyone inside is dead or unconscious. Although the course changes are hard to explain in that case, apparently the altitude changes can be explained this way.

I thought I read that the Indian Government, which has significant naval presence on the islands west of Malaysia, said that their military radar equipment did not detect the fight coming into the Andaman Sea?

Naval forces do not necessarily have search radars activated at all times. That may or may not mean anything depending if they were actively searching at the time, either specifically for the flight, or in general.

Now Malaysia is saying it was diverted by someone on board. The search area is most of the Indian Ocean, an average depth of around 2 miles. The search area also includes some islands and a smaller chunk of the continent.

I'm guessing any 777 not showing a valid transponder code and flying where it is supposed to be flying is likely to be shot down, as a terrorist threat.

So, this plane is (was?) a 777-200ER, which is, for all intents and purposes the longest range commercial aircraft in the world.

The direction it apparently flew (west) it could possibly have made it to the African continent undetected. There is a possibility, however remote, that the plane was successfully stolen as part of some kind of terrorist plot and is on the ground in Somalia, or some other terrorist friendly country. I have no idea if there are runways large enough to support a safe 777 landing there, but it's a distinct possibility.

Right now, my gut is telling me that one or both of the pilots intentionally diverted the aircraft into the southern Indian ocean, where it ran out of fuel, or otherwise crashed into the ocean. If this scenario is true, it is likely that the wreckage will never be found...

If full on fuel, sure. I don't think it was. What I saw in terms of its possible range, based on fuel, could not get it to Africa.

Of course, that report was a couple of days ago, and "facts" appear to be moving targets in this case. Especially facts from the Malaysian government.

I did read that the CEO of the airline confirmed that the airplane had a 'normal' fuel load for the scheduled 6+ hour flight. I'm not sure what 'normal' is for an international, over water flight though. "Normal" might mean 'Full' in that circumstance.

There is so little real information coming out of the area, and much of what we are hearing is conflicting.

It's apparent that the countries in that area are unwilling to share any real radar or satellite data with the investigators (if it even exists at all), presumably out of fear that their neighbors will learn that their systems are inferior.

Apparently the Thai military just released some useful radar observations (not necessarily raw data) that would have been useful early on. When asked why they didn't provide it sooner, the response was "no one asked!" do'h

I'm starting think that the plane actually went north and ended up in China or somewhere in that general vicinity.

My problem with this theory is that we are assuming that the various countries militaries are being cooperative with their radar and satelite data. I'm not so sure that is the case...

Elmarnieh, I was just about to post that article. Best theory (and simplest) I've seen so far. The plane is in the water in the Indian Ocean somewhere near the flight path.

That is my guess as well.

Tragic, but most plausible.

I think it flew off course , crash landed in the Southern Ocean somewhere, killing a whale in turn. Then Paul Watson and his Bob Barker ship finally had had enough from the whale killing people of the world and had missiles installed on his ship that took out the remaining remains of the plane and all the whale killing survivors.

Heard someone on the radio thats a 777 pilot. He said if it went in the drink nose first at speed we could very likely never find it.
