What makes you think they don't give these scholarships to the most qualified people?

This thread sucks donkey cock now. I blame DE for derailing a perfectly good rant with bullshit logic.

It's more on a personal level that I wish the girl expecting free handouts didn't actually get a free handout. Surely there are others with equal or better qualifications that would be much more appreciative of the gift.

This. Exactly.

The upside to her getting a scholarship is that it means the parents have less financial obligation to pay for the little brats education...

I think that's an upside for any family, regardless of the issues they may have.

I seem to recall the original article that got our panties in a twist mentioning the girl has consistently been an honors student. We shouldn't be surprised or upset to hear she got a scholarship. I understand that everyone involved wants to believe she's some worthless loser dropout because we feel she insufficiently respects her parents' authoritah, but it's not feeding someone's sense of entitlement to give them a scholarship that they've earned by objective academic metrics.

But congratulations on becoming crotchety old geezers before you turned forty. (Midgen and Taskiss notwithstanding, because they were already crotchety old geezers). Oh! Double points for Lenas, 'cause he got old before he even made it to thirty.

I do recall that she was an honor student, and she seemingly meets the requirement for a scholarship...

I just feel like if I were giving a scholarship to someone, all other things being equal, I probably wouldn't choose to give to the entitled little princess... I'm sure I could find another similarly qualified student out there that would appreciate the opportunity (rather than demand it be given to her).

Where do you get the idea that she demanded anything from the school at all, or doesn't appreciate it? Just because she acted that way towards her parents?

It's not uncommon at all for teenagers to be much more respectful and appreciative of adults that aren't their parents. Or has it occurred to you that she may have learned something from this incident?

Where did I say she demanded anything from the school?

Does "the opportunity" refer to something other than the scholarship? If so, you might want to clarify.

Just to be clear, the article says the scholarship is automatic. Every student who meets the academic requirements automatically gets the scholarship. There was no choice on the part of the school to make, and no "similarly qualified" students who did not get the same scholarship.

What's next? "Entitled student is given free clothes from JC Penneys. Our investigation reveals that JC Penneys gave this entitled princess a free pair of jeans and blouse after she shopped there on Friday. Allegedly, she was taking advantage of their Buy 1 Get 1 Free sale."

Obviously they should have gone to someone who would be more grateful to Penny's for trying to get rid of excess inventory.

It's okay Midgen, they buried it at the bottom of the article, obviously trying to get people riled up over this non-story. News is the worst sometimes.
