People need to get out of the mindset that shots off the post are unlucky bounces that beat the goaltender. If you hit the post, its the same as any other shot that missed the net. Close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades. You either missed because your aim was off, or because the opposing goaltender has been so good you're intentionally trying to pick the very edges of the net to sneak one by him. That loud 'clang' of a shot ringing off the post is a success for the defenders, not a failure for the goalie that the attackers were unable to count.

While I normally don't like defending the Boston Bruins, every team has a few assholes for fans - Some more than others. P.K. Subban's little brother, Malcolm, a goaltender, was drafted two years ago by the Boston Bruins. I'm fairly sure the racist twits who tweeted that garbage don't represent the organization.

Montreal has split the first two, in Boston, which is generally considered a positive result for the underdog.

What concerns me, is in both games Montreal had a 2 goal lead in the third period, and gave up that lead both times.

That was an incredible win for the B's today; oh, and yeah, there is a small, yet vocal and therefor noticable, segment of the Boston fan base that's more than a bit rowdy. It's largely comprised of "old neighborhood Irish" from South Boston. That's likely the group throwing garbage and racial epithets around. Thing is, they aren't racist (generally). These guys worship Bill Russell, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, etc. like Gods. It's outsiders they don't like, and they'll say anything or do anything at all to hurt outsiders. They'd start a fist fight in a bar if you called David Ortiz a "colored boy", but Derek Jeter always has been, and always will be "a cocky nigger".

The game had lots of penalties uncalled. The refs put the whistles away. This is why i'm not complaining about Marchand's constant little slashes to the hands after the whistle. Honestly, that's fine. Montreal was inexplicably pushing Boston around that game. Since when do the Habs out-hit the Bruins, ever?

Spearing, however, is always a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. It frequently results in a suspension. There's no 2 minute spearing penalty. It's always dirty, and it has no place in the game. Most other infractions can be accidents that happen over the normal course of play -- hooking, tripping, elbowing, interference, high-sticking, boarding, holding, even roughing -- they're not necessarily dirty. Spearing is different. It's always a hostile violent act with intent to harm. It's never a "hockey play."
