Apparently on Nov1, 2010, all Puerto Rico birth certificates issued before July 1 2010 were declared invalid.
http://answers.usa.gov/system/templates ... rtificates

I had no idea this had happened until I went to the DMV last week to apply for an EDL (so I can go to Canada with some friends).

I was told I needed to bring my birth certificate as proof of citizenship. But when I presented the same birth certificate I used to enlist in the Air Force back in 1981, I was told it wasn't valid.

I haven't looked into the replacement process, but I suspect it's going to be a challenge, considering I don't speak any spanish.

Whether or not your birth certificate was valid, you're still a citizen. Anyone born in the United States and subject to it's jurisdiction is a U.S. Citizen by birth, irrevocably, and regardless of documentation. Those not subject to it's jurisdiction would be people like children of ambassadors or visiting Heads of State, so if William and Kate gave birth here that baby would not be a U.S. citizen. For pretty much anyone else physically born here, however, citizenship is automatic and irrevocable.

Kind of neat that you were born in Puerto Rico, though.

Until you can't get a pass port or in his case an enhanced drivers license.

I don't think I'm in any danger of being deported, but I can't get a passport or EDL without some proof of citizenship.

The backstory is, my Father was in the Air Force, stationed at Ramey AFB when I was born.I was born in a Puerto Rican hospital in a town called Aguadilla, although the presiding Doctor was a US Military doctor.

It's a backlash by the current administration for the birthed conspiracy nuts. All the Republicans born in the territories got their birth certificates taken away so they can't vote or run for office. I guess you learned your lesson about questioning the government.

It's every bit as realistic as Republicans wanting to require identification to vote as a means to keep blacks and latinos from voting for Democrats.

See?

This is why we can't have nice threads...

Can I request the mods pre-emptively move this to Hellfire, so I can completely ignore it for the rest of it's existence?

i never claimed to not read anything or post in hellfire..

It's just significantly more likely that I'm going to lose interest in the discussion before it hits the bottom of page two if it's in hellfire...
