The Glade 4.0

On Sat. morning, I was strapping poles for a shade pavilion on my roof rack, and slipped with a bungie. Thank goodness for sunglasses. They protected my eye, but the impact was pretty hard. Vision seemed ok after the initial shock, and we went on our way for the day.

But, around my eyebrow is still sore and a little bruised, and something is screwy with my vision when transitioning to lower light. I can still see fine, it's just that there is kind of like a shadow at times. Now I get to wait for my eye dr to open. The universe knew I was a little overdue for my annual pre-glaucoma testing and decided I needed a kick in the pants.

It was one of those days, though. That evening, my bf tripped on a box in his garage while carrying stuff, and fell right onto an iron pipe. Thankfully, he did not get a core sample of his head. At least the day's bad luck didn't carry over to the archery shoot we did that day. (No crossbow accidents, yay!)

Next time, though, I'll use the ratcheting tie-downs.

I have a friend who did the fall off a ladder-get impaled on an iron fence thing. He survived. Doesn't recommend it to anyone.

Speaking of impaled...

Years ago, a guy that worked on the same project I did dove head first out of a boat into the river, right onto a sharp under water branch off a huge underwater tree. The branch entered at his collar bone and came out through his abdomen. As far as I know, he lived, but I never saw him again. Last I heard (like a year after the incident) he had several more surgeries to go.

I always remember him whenever conversations include "impale".

Right, so bungies are the most useful things on the planet. They also give me the impression, every time I use them, that they want to kill me.

Yeah it is weird, there is no middle ground there. Despite the fact that they come in a variety of sizes, bungies are always either uselessly loose or dangerously too tight.

Yay, no tear, no detachment. Just some trauma to the retina off on the side. Should heal in a week or so, but I will be at risk of developing a cataract in the next year or so.

The most annoying part of this whole thing was that I ended up having debilitating headaches for a week, especially if I drove for more than 15 minutes. I couldn't commute to work for a few days, so worked from home. I still get headaches in lower light when driving (very overcast days, etc), but it's almost back to normal.
