Just watched this.

Best Superman movie ever made.

I know, that's not saying a lot, but I did enjoy it.

I just saw this over the weekend finally. It needed to be tightened, editing-wise, especially at the end (one loooooong fight - how many buildings can you destroy?). Parts dragged. But overall I enjoyed it.

Spoiler:
I liked most that it touched on Clark's need to constantly restrain his powers (either by showing his own struggles directly or through surrogates, i.e., the Kryptonians needing to deal with the changes). Bruce Timm's Justice League had brilliantly covered this earlier:

So now that we've gotten the obligatory origin done, I'm hoping to get a lot more more depth out of the next movie. Unfortunately, I doubt we'll get a brighter palette - the washed out browns and grays are so out of place in a Superman movie. I know they wanted him to stand out (smacking you in the face with his outsider status), but it got a little depressing.

And I note that the Honest Trailer for this is pretty amusing (contains spoilers):

Initial thoughts:

  1. Love shorter Bat-ears.
  2. Not a huge fan of the Bat-emblem on front. It's way too vertically chunky for my tastes, very Frank Miller-y.
  3. Right now he looks hunchbacked. May just be the pose, though.
  4. I feel like the suit gets the tactical aspect down, but kinda fails on the "theatrical" bit, which is a large part of Batman. With everything being the same shade of black, there's no definition to anything, and it just turns into a bit of mush. Admittedly the photo is in black and white (or else it's just ultra gritty), but that should show more contrast, not less.
  5. Just...get Nolan away from DC. Like everyone else I loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight (too bad he never finished that trilogy...), but this half-step reboot-that-feels-just-like-the-Dark Knight-trilogy-but-isn't thing just isn't working for me. This was my biggest issue with Man of Steel (which I very much enjoyed, aside from the doofy Zod-kill climax and some staggeringly stupid decisions, like Pa Kent's death). Just let it be free.

New, official title announced.

Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice

The more I see it, the goofier it gets.

Now that is a WW I can get behind *cough*. That is one that looks like an amazon warrior and not some "hooray for 'murica!" cheap costumed bonadge slut.

That's about as ignorant a statement as I've ever seen from you, Numbuk. The "star-spangled" costume has ALWAYS been about drawing attention to the fact that Diana (or Artemis or Atalanta depending on the particular arc) is an outsider. And it was born of sending her as an Ambassador to the United States during the height of the Cold War and Korea in one incarnation and because Action Comics needed an answer to Captain America in '41. Incidentally, it's a pretty shrewd bit of creativity and market bravery. If it matters to you, she didn't lose the skirt until much later in life. But woe be unto the world for liking perhaps the strongest female role model young guys and girls could view before Betty Friedan crawled out of her bottle. Never mind that the choice to make her an Amazon conspicuously freed her very male creator from having to EVER marry her off. That costume also has significant nods to Greek Mythology, as it happens.

And, that particular Nolanverse costume happens to largely inspired by Artemis's own traditional armor and the suit Diana wears in Kingdom Come combined. Any rip-offs involving Xena go in Xena's direction, not Wonder Woman's.

Batman: Assault on Arkham was really good. Son of Batman was OK, much better than the Grant Morrison piece of **** (but I repeat myself) on which it was based. But I still hate Jason O'Mara's puny voice for Batman.

Kevin Conroy is the only voice of Batman.

Speaking of DCAU voices, I love this video (even though it's for a video game, not a TV show). If you've ever had a hard time wrapping your mind around the idea that Luke Skywalker is The Joker, this video is for you:

Look. The Avengers have a quinjet, so Aquaman needs a Quindent. It's common sense logic.
