Whatever. I got a bunch of games for a dollar and in my head I'm giving EA the finger.

Have fun raging against Origin or whatever it was you guys were doing in here.

I don't even give anyone the finger. I like these games and will pay money for them.

Two more added: Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Uprising and Populous, and the former gets a Steam key too.

Well for starters I just got five of their games for a dollar and zero percent of that went to EA. I'm not screwing them in any meaningful way but I do appreciate that I've got legal copies of their IP's now without having given them anything, and I did it without getting Origin.

I'm gaining hours of entertainment across multiple titles and EA has, quite literally, gained nothing.
You've played Mass Effect 3 on PC.

Actually I haven't played any mass effect on the PC.

Steam has way more value-add features, and Valve has a way better attitude towards pricing and the community than EA has ever shown.

In addition, supporting Steam is supporting a multi-publisher, indie-friendly industry leader in digital distribution, and supporting Origin is supporting fragmented, first-party-publisher digital distribution platforms.

I choose the option that does not encourage and advocate that every developer eventually has their own specific launcher and user account.
All of this, although if I'm being honest with myself - it really just boils down to me being too lazy to want to maintain both Steam and Origin.
I'm not the type to inconvenience myself for the sake of an ideal.
I'm the type to uphold an ideal for the sake of convenience.

All snarkiness aside ...

If you read EA's terms of use and EULA and other such documentation, Origin's legalese quickly establishes that you are leasing any IPs acquired through the system. Steam has a vastly different level of ownership. I've actually had EA de-license a game I had on Origin, and I paid retail for that one.

EA's business model makes it very satisfying to pirate certain titles. I'm not a huge fan of "The Sims" series, for instance, but The Sims 3 with all of it's expansions would be hundreds of dollars. I will torrent something just because I laugh that they charge that much for a game that isn't complete until all the add-ons are released.

EA is also far too big on "microtransactions" -- I just want to buy a title and be done with it. If I just paid retail for a game, I shouldn't be made to feel like I don't have the complete game unless I fork out twice the retail cost just to get DLC -- half of which was already complete before the game was released and withheld so that they could charge extra for it.

With that said, I don't necessarily boycott EA. They haven't released anything for which I am willing to endure the inconvenience of an origin account (see Kaffis), but if they did, I'd buy it.
