I just fell in love with my Aurora.

Yeah, I'm definitely not winning any dogfights with mine, though. Lol!

We'll see how I like my LN once the variants hit the field. Maybe the extra hardpoints and larger stock powerplant and shield will change my mind on it.

Or maybe I'll have two upgradeable slots in my hangar for those new ships they'll insist on selling...

I think the aurora is going to be good at what the aurora is supposed to do, and that's not go head to head with Milspec hornets.

I see me using mine either as a solo hauler, where I'm going to be avoiding fights -and smashing a couple raiders when I can't- or in support of larger units.

Yup. The M50 is gorgeous in the hangar.

They went with the white and red color scheme, which pleases me.

The cockpit has somewhat of a similar feel to the 300i, except it's a throttle & stick instead of a yoke. It's a tight fit, but the canopy is very open and unobstructed, like the 300i and Avenger.

Seeing your pilot standing next to it really reinforces the "cockpit strapped to a couple engines" scale of the thing.

And the ComLink teases us with shots of it in the Asteroid Hangar, of course. Soon, you driving hunk of rock, soon you will be mine!

You will be able to secure different ships in game.

I will, however, be picking up a Cutlass, since apparently a pledge purchase is the only way to end up with an asteroid hangar.

Other hangars are available other ways. You can probably pick one up separate sooner or later.

I am likely going to be highly focused on exploration. That said, I am building a new machine for this game based on Kaffis's streams.

Interestingly enough, I may have a good idea of exactly how good the new engine optimizations were.

I have a laptop with a GeForce 525M GT with 2 GB of discrete GDDR3 and 6 GB of system memory. It has an i5-2410M with a very nice H-IPS 1920x1080 15" LCD. I flew in free flight quite acceptably at 1680x1050 at approximately 40 fps at low settings. I may run it native for a few screen shots later with some bells and whistles turned on.

That's a fairly weak machine relative to this game. I cannot complain.

I'm just gonna link it since the Glade's youtube tags don't support mid-video start times, but today's 10 for the Chairman answers a question from a familiar name, and wanders into some interesting information about Arena Commander feature/patch timelines...

Monthly update dropped last night, too. Looks like we're going to see a LOT of new stuff at the Gamescom demo, much of which may also be in Update 13 shortly thereafter.

Yeah, but he said it all accenty. Not at all how I say it. And I've heard Kaffis, he's not accenty either.

Heh :)

So they still haven't fixed the chin guns not recharging in the Hornet. /sigh

However, the Beaver/Badger or whatever combo has a lot more pewpew. They feel a little more like lightspeed weapons.

So I know a bunch of you guys don't watch the community shows...

Around the Verse yesterday dropped a couple sneak peeks at the end. A rapidfire slideshow of the Retaliator greyboxing, and the two in-hangar posters that will be upcoming to celebrate the Gamescon event. Backers will get some UEC to subsidize one of them.

One poster's a nice one for racing fans, it's got 2 350r's and 3 M50's flying in a pack.

The other one.. well, here it is.

Heh. So an hour ago, I got an email saying that they had a lot of 1000 of the 10" Constellation physical models that they were going to put on sale to Concierge backers due to the limited quantity of the first production run. If it's well received, the implication was that they'd go back to the manufacturer and produce a bigger stock to put on sale to all backers.

In an hour, they've sold over 600 of those. At a $99 price point.

You have to admit, this game has a base like no other. "Our natural market is the kids that grew up playing wing commander games, have strong nostalgia, and have now gone on to make lots of expendable money working in intelligent jobs and also possibly spent enough time playing wing commander games that they have no significant other spending that expendable money on things like maintenance and hygiene. Will they buy 99 dollar constellation physical models? Hell yes, they'll buy six variants!" Well played, Chris Roberts... well played.

And I never said it was a bad thing. Just that they have an AMAZING market, that without the nostalgia, I don't believe would exist. They definitely wouldn't be at 50 million with so few backers. Also, now you can totally have constellation battles at your work desk! Pew pew pew!

I was playing another MMO (it's grouse's fault) and boy there is a lot of hate out there for us. If it's a just a big scam or its not your thing, why are you up in arms about it? C'mon we've got a working flight demo and some darn fine art of the finest environments. If this is a scam, then it's the most elaborate scam in history and its probably worth the $45 (what these guys pay for three months of their MMO) to be a part of it.

So I'm leaving for GenCon in 4 hours, and will be without sufficient internet (or time) to stream Friday's Gamescom presentation, which promises to be chock full of awesomeness.

Can I count on somebody here to summarize some line items of the event so I can check in and know what's waiting for me on Monday?
