So as I'm slowly building myself a gaming computer, I remembered the whole "need antivirus" part of running windows.

So what do you all recommend? Preferably free?

Malwarebytes, SpyBot?

Avast! Still good?

You don't, really. I haven't used anything other than built in Windows Defender since Win8 came out.

Ok, cool.

I ran without one for years, then had a rootkit issue, then stopped using Windows for a few years, so I wasn't sure what the current standard was.

Of course, I'm still running XP until I snag a cheap upgrade to 7 or 8.

I used to use AVG, but haven't used any in a long time.

I've used Avast!, AVG, and Avira (current) and found them all acceptable.

I take back what I said, get an antivirus. Microsoft doesn't even support XP anymore.

Gotcha.

I won't be browsing the web on this at all, other than to DL addons- just going to be a dedicated WoW box.

Is this box going to be connected to your home network? If so, do not run Windows XP.

It will. But everything else on my home network is running OSX, if that matters.

I like eset. Written in assembly, so quite fast and not a resource hog. Not free though.
