I get asked for change all the time....sometimes I feel generous and give a dollar or two...sometimes I'm in a bad mood and say go away...other times I just pretend to be deaf.

If that makes me bad or good or indifferent, I don't care. We are on a fixed income now so I don't feel I have to give to every beggar outside the store/gas station/left turn lane/etc.

I've bought people food before. Most the time I just don't carry cash. I had to struggle to find something to put in the fireman's boot the other week

I'd say that more than 1/3 of the time I gave beggars food in San Francisco, it went directly into the trash, or they ***** about needing money, not food.
