I'm a little late to the party, now that I'm recently a dad, my TV watching is a bit behind. I had the good sense to DVR this though. I learned a long time ago to not base my opinion of a show on the Pilot, most of them turn out somewhat stiff, and annoying, rarely do the actors/actresses have a good report yet, and the writers are often times trying to sell the series to network bigwigs rather than tell the story to the audience, so it didn't surprise me at all for them drop well known villain names. I haven't had time to watch the second episode yet, so no opinion there.

The show itself looks to be an origin story of one James Gordon, and his fight to clean up the Gotham PD, while also trying to keep the city itself from succumbing to the chaos and organized crime that gives birth to Batman. From the Pilot, it looks like they intend to use several of Batman's rogues gallery to drive Gordon's story.

As for the acting, I felt they absolutely nailed the actor who plays Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), he has the creepy look down, and did pretty well at portraying him as well.

I absolutely love Donal Logue, he was a brilliant choice to play the part of Detective Harvey Bullock.

Jury is still out on the actor who is playing Gordon, seemed a bit stiff, but like I said before, may just be the Pilot, hopefully he settles in to the role.

Really not sure what they are going for with Alfred, but we'll see.

All in all, I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. The fact that it is on Fox gives me more pause than anything about the show itself. Absolutely can't wait for Flash, but this looks like it may be a nice addition to my DVR schedule as well.

I am really starting to like the penguin arc, and young Bruce Wayne. I can take or leave the rest of it.

They're definitely the standouts, although I also like Donal Logue and Gordon. Definitely like that it's a mobster show with elements of Batman, instead of the other way around.

It is and that's okay. I like Gordon/Bullock odd couple cop dynamic, but so far it just seems to be a vehicle for other things

I've kinda come to adore Jada Pinkett Smith in it. It's like no one told her she's not in the old '60s Adam West show.

That's pretty much where I fall on the entire enterprise, come to think about it. It's got that uneasy but effortless mixture of grittiness and archness that informed Tim Burton's 1989 Batman, and that's pretty much the sweet spot for live-action DC to me.

Last night I described it to my wife the same way, basically. "It's generally a show about mobsters, and sometimes some very outlandish Batman stuff will happen (like the balloonist, or venom), but it's still dealt with in a gritty way."

Took some time and watched the five episodes to date. Something occurred to me.

Bullock, while still holding on to the game, has come to admire Gordon's Paladin nature. He has become less obstructive and more helpful. Do n't get me wrong, he will still try to put a bullet in Jim's head if ordered to, but at least he will feel bad about doing it.

Bullock is straight lifted from current continuity. Jim turns him straight, and Bullock's loyalty to Gordon is NEVER in question after a certain point. And I think Donal Logue was an INSPIRED casting choice for Bullock.

Haven't read the comic in a few years. Good to know they are following continuity, at least one of my them.

Just watched a video that said season one was going to focus heavily on the rise of the penguin.

I may be enjoying this show out of all the current "comic book" shows I am watching (and granted I am not watching them all). And I agree that Donal Logue was a great casting choice.

Though he will always be Jimmy the cab driver to me, too.

New episode written by Ben Edlund (writer of the Tick) was great. Some really good moments.

Yes very good. It's like they were trying to establish the proverb Behind every Gotham psycho man is an unhealthy relationship with a woman. The end was quite the moment.

I liked it but the fact they gave more than two lines to a throw away character, I knew they were behind the resurgence.

Ah well, it is difficult to introduce a mystery in a weekly show without introducing too many new characters.

At least it wasn't as glaringly obvious as the trailer for mask of the phantasm was.

I think I've come to the conclusion this is my favorite of all the comic book shows that I watch.

They needed to show that Bullock is actually capable of doing police work. This show established that Harvey's incompetence is willful, not something he cannot change.

Ok, the addition of Dent, at the age he is, might have been a mistake. Also, way over the top.

It wasn't a high point. But I'm willing to forgive that one.

Anyone still watching this?

It remains one of my favorite shows. And Season 2 has been very strong so far. This week's episode also being quite good.

Still watching. Enjoying the new season. The butchers bill is growing quickly and taking some of my favorite minor characters though.
