As I have posted many times before, I have precious little time or the ability to even console game much anymore.

I finished Assassin's Creed 2 a little while back and loved just about every minute of it. I drew it out long because I just revelled in all the stuff to do and found myself lost in the countryside more often than not chasing down every little tidbit and every sidequest.

I have Assassin's Creed 2: Revelations and have started in on it, but I am not very far in at all. And I have Assassin's Creed 3 waiting in the wings for me to even take the disc out of the sleeve.

To those who have played and loved this series so far, should I take the time to make my way through Revelations and enjoy it as I did AC2? So far it seems very same-ish to AC. Or do I jump into AC3, which I heard fantastic things about. Huge, Immersive world with lots to do.

I don't want to miss out on a large chunk of Ezio's story, but I really want to get to the later entries in the series before I die of old age.

Thanks

They got really fast with their releases there for a bit, overwhelmed me as well. I really enjoyed AC 1, 2, and Brotherhood. I started revelations, but as you said, it felt like more of the same and didn't draw me in, and I moved onto something else soon after. Honestly, I hadn't heard very many good things about AC3, and I rented it and played it for a couple hours before giving up on it as well. I recently picked up ACIV: Black Flag, and I'm really enjoying it. I don't like how they simplified the combat, but the piracy aspects and exploration are great. I've spent about 50 hours taking over the seas already.

Great. Black Flag sounds awesome too. Just what I need.

AC: Revelations was much better than AC3; I thought the ending was as close to "moving" as AC could get, and I liked the Altaïr tie-ins. I want to recommend skipping 3 altogether and moving straight on into Black Flag... Unfortunately AC3 wraps the story up so you have to put up with Conor being as fun as a sack of moldy potatoes for the entirety.

And, once again Penny Arcade sums up the entire controversy in 3 panels.

Yeah, that's too bad. They've really run this franchise into the ground with their overpublishing money grab. I was reading the other day how they fired the original creator (who was really committed to completing the game with a trilogy, the 3rd game being the "desmond as assassin" game we all wanted anyway) so that they could extend the franchise ad nauseam. Unfortunate.

On the upside, the reviews of the new Dragon Age are good, so maybe that's worth adding to my giant stack of games I've bought and haven't played.

I read a review headline that basically implied that AC had been "Madden'd"

http://finance.yahoo.com/tumblr/blog-ubisoft-gets-crushed-after-abysmal-assassins-creed-165926902.html

Quote:
"Ubisoft North American president Laurent Detoc said that Ubisoft would break Assassin’s Creed’s annualized schedule by delaying a game "if it’s not good enough..If we think we’ve ended up with a 70 percent Assassin’s Creed game, we’re not going to ship it,” Detoc told IGN. “That damages the brand. I’m not going to give you the names of products, because you know them as well as I do, but if you start to make games at 70 percent, even with a big brand, eventually people are going to change their mind about that brand. They won’t want it anymore.” Source: IGN

Ubisoft’s own words are indicting their own company as this year’s version scores in the 70s.

"We would totally never damage our brand." - Promptly damages brand.

Also, the PC version is apparently abysmal

His game reviews are always entertaining. I enjoyed the one he did for Modern Warfare as well. Time to cross the street!

They should push that date back a couple weeks, it is too close to Rogue One. They risk being destroyed.

I have a hunch that the film'll handle that just fine on its own. I don't know what it is, maybe just the video game-to-film-ness of it, but I have a feeling it's not exactly gonna be great.

It looks like they retained enough of the game to actually be the same franchise, I'll see it. Fassbender has been really good lately as well.

Still has the curse of being a "video game to film translation", which means it starts off with a high chance of suck. I'm curious if any of the myriad of video game to films coming out this year will break the trend. The best video game to film adaptation wasn't even of an existing game, it was just structured like one (Edge of Tomorrow/LiveDieRepeat).

All You Need is Kill...The title list goes on. Fun movie, terrible marketing.

I have hopes for Warcraft, if for no other reason that Duncan Jones is a really good filmmaker (see: Moon, Source Code), and he's most definitely got a crushing amount of passion for the material. Fingers crossed.

Holy avatar whiplash, Batman!

True about duncan jones, but I have to admit, the trailers just look so cartoony. I'm not sure they can generate any emotion. We shall see.
